Public housing has no interest
WINGHAM; The federal government has
announced grants of $259 -million to build
publicly assisted housing in Ontario this
year. However it appears none of the money
will find its way to Wingham.
Andrew McBride, head of the Wingham
Dion -Profit Housing Corporation said the
group has been told the earliest it could
expect funding is 1986, but there is no
guarantees,
The Wingham group was set up several
years ago to build and administer new
senior housing. Part of the funding problem
is that it has not been able to find very many
people in Wingham who need such housing.
An updated survey, taken last year,
showed that 17 people were interested in the
housing concept. The figure was down from
the 22 total in an earlier survey.
Blyth Councillor Bill Howson attended the second annual Clinton Hospital Dinner
Auction held last Saturday night at the Clinton Legion Hall. Mr. Howson said he was
impressed with this particular painting. He also said that this year there was a better
variety of paintings. The auction raised over $4,000 for the hospital. (Rod Hilts photo )
