evening. The Hospital hopes to continue with
another similar evening next year as plans
are already in the making to make it an even
bigger and better event. The Hospital is
very pleased by the efforts put forth by the
Public Relations Committee and former
members of the Fund Raising Committee,
and the volunteers are to be commended for
their faithful service. It is efforts like these

While the 12,601 students under the Huron
County Board of Education were enjoying a
holiday from school Tuesday, the 650
teachers in the system were in the
classrooms at Central Huron Secondary
School in Clinton for professional activity
day.
Seeding of spring grains has fallen about
two weeks. behind as area farmers have
been plagued by excessive rainfalls, over
five inches in April in some parts of the
County.
The 1974 version of the Clinton Spring Fair

By the middle of May, Clinton's many
homes and business places will have a
number assigned to them, and the Kinsmen
Club members have accepted the task of
making sure each household or business
knows their own number and has a set of
numbers installed.

The Clinton Horticultural Society meeting
was held April 25 with Dorothy Williams in
charge. Dorothy read a poem entitled Wind
from an 1881 Public School Reader.
The society will have a float in the
Klompen Feest parade and Margaret
Sloman requested donations of tulips from
members. Margaret also gave a report on
the progress of the restored School Car and
announced a "Last Spike" ceremony up-
coming Sept. 1 with representatives of the
C.N.R. in attendance. -
Dorothy reported on the District Conven-
tion held in Brussels April 14. The Provin-
cial Convention will be in Sudbury in June.
In this Bicentennial Year each town has
been asked to choose a flower to, be grown in
public and private flower beds. It was decid-
ed that Clinton's flower would be the
Marigold. A Bicentenmafttower bed -will be
planted inySloman Park featuring Ontario's
emblem, the "Trillium".
Mike Falconer gave an informative talk
on growing perennials. A well planned
border will provide color throughout the
season requiring very little care once

A report has reached here of an oceurance
said to ,have taken place at Lucknow this
week, wherein a gentlem well known in
Clinton. though not a resident here, is said to,
have figured. The person in question some
time ago lost his wife, and is said to have
advertised for another. Among the
numerous replies he received to his adver-
tisement, was bne from a supposed fair
maid of Lucknow, which met with special
favor. She was represented to be young, in
good circumstances andas her photo show-
ed, exceedingly good looking. A pleasant
correspondence ensued, when the
gentleman decided to make a personal call
at the home of his fair charmer and sent
word accordingly, she agreeing to meet him
at the station at an appointed time. Donned
in his most becoming apparel, (and he is by
no means bad looking) he travelled to
Lucknow, no doubt in a happy frame of
mind. As he stepped from the cars, on his ar-
rival at the station, he was much surprised
to find a very large crowd there, and a great
deal more surprised on finding that he was
the object of their special observation, and
they were armed with cow bells and other
musical instruments like tin pans. As soon
a5 they began to use expressions which had
passed in correspondence between himself
and the supposed lady of Lucknow, and in
other ways showed that they knew the ob-
ject of his visit, the truth that he had been
led into a trap began to dawn upon him, and
he beat a hasty retreat.
