Brazilian enjoys Canada
Rodrigo Gasbaretto, a 17 -year old
Brazillian native returned to his Sao Paula,
Cambinas home last week, with praise
about Canada and his host's.
Rodrigo took part in an Experiment in
lnternation.- Living -.program and made his
home in Clinton with the Beecher Menzies
family for six weeks.
He enjoyed his first visit to Canada,
including our North American winter and
even tried downhill skiing. He also took part
in classes at Central Huron Secondary
School and found that schools here have
more organization and order.
Despite language differences, the barriers
between Portugese and English were few
and Rodrigo returned to Brazil with a new
language. English is a prominent language
in the South American business world and
Rodrigo. ,plansto continue his English..
language studies. While Brazillian schools
teach English twice a week, Rodrigo. hopeq,
to enrol in extra classes outside the school,
He believes that English will help in his
future career choice.. He is presently
considering following in his father's
footsteps, as a doctor, or may decide on a
future in engineering. '
Rodrigo's stay in Clinton included a
whirlwind tour of several major centres.
While in Ottawa he visited the Parliament
Buildings and was a guest of the Brazillian
ambassador. He toured Toronto, Niagara
Falls and skiied in Buffalo and Collingwood.
While enjoying his stay in Canada, at the
end of six weeks, Rodrigo was anxious to
return home. He wasn't necessarily —
homesick but realized he was missing
school. The Brazillian school term began in
March, so Rodrigo was behind. However his
mother, a school principal will help him
catch up.
Rodrigo chose Canada on the exchange
program because he said his mother had
travelled extensively and she liked Canada
better than the United States. He also
wanted to learn the language.
The. Menzies have been involved in
Experiment in International Living in the
past, Three years ago- they sponsored an.
gentine guest: This time they chose
,rjgo because he was close in age to their
son.Beec"`11er.
Rodrigo admitted that he found Clinton,
"a little different," from his home in Brazil,
a city of one million people, still he enjoyed
the experience `of living in a different
country, speaking a different language and
meeting new people.
Sheep Club first meeting
On April 7 the Huron Sheep Club held its
organizational meeting. There were 15
members in attendance.
The four leaders are Florence Pullen,
Elenor Babcock, Lila Rintoul and Harriet
Boon.
The organizational meeting was held at
Mrs. 'Pullen's home. Members received
their project signs, gate signs and record
books. Then the fun began when members
played a get -to -know -you game.
The election of officers was held. The
results were: president, Martha Boon; vice
president, Ron Chambers; secretary -
treasurer, Sandra Merner; press reporter,
Lana Jones.
Next members went to the barn to judge a
class of yearling Suffock ewes. The placing
was 2,1,3,4. Martha Boon closed the meeting
with the 4-11 pledge. The next meeting will
be held at Donna Johnston's on May 5., -press
reporter Lana Jones. .
