We encourage all people who own land or are residents of Goderich Twp. in 1984 to support the committee by purchasing a copy of the book early and have your name included on the patrons list. Only residents or land owners who have purchased a copy by September 1st, 1984 can have their names included in the history book. Also this book will make an excellent gift for your Spandau lullaby music By Janet Tench Always be suspicious' of a band with many . one -word -titled songs.. The first band I saw like that- fronted for Peter. Gabriel jumped around much better than they could sing. In the case of Spandau Ballet the brief song titles are as dull as the songs: Communica- tion, Pleasure, Lifeline, Foundation, True and Gold. For once I'm glad that record companies are cutting down to eight tracks (songs) per LP. Spandau Ballet, yet another member of the British invasion a la Romanticism, presents a rather dull effort with their new album, True. Tony Hadley's rich vocals add THURS. FRI. SAT. REDD RAVIN TUES. APRIL 3RD CONEY HATCH S5.00 ADVANCE 56.50 AT TH1 DOOR LOUNGE & DINING LOUNGE, OPEN SUNDAY ALL DAY some texture to the poetic, if somewhat meaningless, ditties here. The band is big in Britain because they represent the working, class. However, I find nothing to appeal to the masses. For example: "What made you break my heart tonight? Now I • am crying, • now I am crying." Ah, poor baby! As well, cliches, ahound, as if the:band is trying to un _.pres'"s us with this` knowledge: "Waiting for: the hell to ring/short change fumble/ dial -a - Heart -trouble". Naturally there 'are. some good - points about the album. There is a dramatic reg- gae sound in songs like Pleasure and Code of Love, but the highlight of true is the song Gold. An upbeat tune,' Gold is more com- mercial than the rest of the album, yet the lyrics are substantial: "always believe in your soul". This song was even played at the Canadiens and Maple Leafs game on March 14. Unfortunately for John Keeble (drums), Martin Kemp (Bass), Steve Norman (sax) and Gary Kemp (Guitar), True's music doesn't hold water. If you dubbed out the vocals the remainder wouldn't even qualify for Muzak. . Basically, True is a nothing album. You can't dance to it (at least the Fixx had that!) maybe your 'boyfriend or girlfriend will croon it to you. However, the album could have renewed popularity if it was released through Walt Disney... as a lullably album.
