Great buys for fishermen
As every true angler knows, successful
fishing depends on a healthy fish population.
So the Ontario Ministry of, Natural
Resources and the Ontario Federation of
Anglers and Hunters plan to hold a free
trout/salmon sports fishing symposium to
tell sports .fishermen how they can help to
keep two of the province's most popular
species healthy and thriving through proper
management techniques.
"Anglers, commercial fishermen, or
anyone else interested in learning more
about trout and sahnon are most welcome to
at_tend,". Natural Resources .Minister Alan
Pope said _today. "I tope tlieyVbe able to
Take alot of -useful information back to their
fellow fishermen."
The sessions, which will be held at Owen
Sound's Holiday Inn on March 31 and April
1, will touch on biology, ecology, habitat
management, stocking, egg incubation box-
es, transporting fish during spawning
periods, harvest management techniques
and- ethics -and- the law. In' addition; Carlos
Ferrevolf of the Great Lakes Fisheries
Commission, Arm Arbor, Michigan, will
speak on salmonid management in the
Great Lakes.
Delegates to visit the ministry fish hat-
chery at Chatsworth, the fish lock at Thorn-
bury, and local Community Fisheries In-
volvement Projects — where local sports
clubs have assisted ministry staff with
fisheries improvement.
Since attendance is limited to 120, early
registration is . advised. For further details

Hunters, P.O. Box 28, Peterborough, On-
