Maitland news
By Milena Lobb
MAITLAND AND THE 16TH - Since spr-
ing does not seem to want to come very fast,
a few folks'htiVe.heen heading off to the sun-
ny south. Marilyn and Don Forbes and
Walter and Suzanne McIllwain spent a week
m the sunny warm Barbados while everyone
was shivering back here.
"Grandma Lobb" (still sounds funny • but
nice) thought she would check Calgary out
and see if it was as warm as tip Dukes were
telling her. My mother, Kathleen Cuyler,
Kincardine,. flew with me to Edmonton. We
left Toronto in that bad storm on Feb. 28 and
it was a little unnerving when they sprayed
the plane with de-icer, then taxied out the
runway not able to see a thing, then sat and
waited. Really I didn't want to have the
plane take off.
Somehow we were able to get up above all
that white stuff and back into sunshine. Ed-
monton was cold but very little, snow, We
spent a few days with , Brian and Lana and
the new grandson and great-grandson
Shane. Then,we took the bus to Calgary and
sure enough the pussy willows were out and
it was spring-like. The snow seemed to
-follow and -it -got; colder .and .sno-wed.a.Jittle.,..._
so they sent me back to Edmonton, but as
Brian and I were driving to the airport it
was snowing and getting cold, so I think they
were glad to have me leave for home. I did
getto see all the boys, Rick Blake, Calvin
Merrier and Dennis Walters, in St. Albert
and I visited with Craig and Shelley Taylor.
On my return I found out that several
more folks wore busy taking trips to the
south. Alvin, Linda, Lana and David Jones
were in Orlando, Florida; . Marilyn, Brad,
Lisa and Lori Forbes, Norene Tebbutt and
Bernie McLelland were leaving in a couple
of days. They drove south and stayed at
Kissimmee and met up with the Jotieses at
Disney World. Murray and Marlene Forbes,
were down in the sun too. They were near
Orlandoand spent a week lying in the sun,
sightseeing, and . visiting with other
"snowbirds" from this area.
Last week Bill and I were in Toronto at-
tending the Mutat Insurance Convention at
the Sheridan. Centre.. We always_see several_
folks from this area so it doesn't seem as if
we are away. On Saturday we visited with
Harry and Shirley Lobb before we came
home.
The S.S. No. 4, Community Club will hold
the April meeting at Phyllis Thoinpson's.
home on April 4. /This will be the annual card
party for the hospital so let's have a good
turn out. Playing time is 1:30 PM. There will
be a picture of the' members taken and it
would be nice to have everyone present.
Red Cross
is international
In 1909, by an Act of the Canadian Parlia-
ment, a former branch of the British Red
Cross became the Canadian Red Cross
Society. In the 75 years of its existence, the
Canadian Red Cross has established an in-
ternational reputation for the many services
it provides. Its Blood Programme is among
the most modern and effective in the world
and its water safety programmes have con-
tributed immeasurably to the reduction of
drownings and water related accidents in
Canada. Why not get involved yourself? Call
your local Red Cross branch for information
about how you too can become a Red Cross
volunteer.
