Rehearsals begin forThe
Theatre Circle's firsi play
Rehearsals have begun for The Shortest
Distance • Between Two Points which plays
at Blyth Memorial Hall, March -15, 16 and 17.
The Shortest Distance Between Two
Points is the first play to be presented by a
new theatre company ' called The Theatre
Circle. It will bring theatre to local
audiences on a regular basis during the fall,
winter and spring months:
Director 'ori >e show is Steve 'Goopman of '
Toronto. Set and costume designer is Wendy
Ball of Stratford 'Who has worked at Strat-
ford Festival, Gryphon Theatre in Barrie
and other theatres across Canada.
Writer Keith Roulston said he wasvery
pleased with the quality of the cast of the
new production. "•On•the whole," he said, "I
think the cast is much stronger than the cast
when the show was originally produced at
the Blyth Summer Festival in 1977. Then the
production was the final one of the year and
some actors were miscast because of the
'repertory company concept of the Festival.
This time the actors have been specifically
chosen for their roles."
Brian. Caulback plays the part of Scotty
McKay, the proprietor of the hardware store
who is also the troubled village reeve who
gets caught"between the government, which
wants to build a super -highway through his
town, and the townspeople, led by the town
drunk ( Michael Kelly of Toronto), who
wants to fight back. I andaBBolen and Robert

The long-awaited announcement of the

cnusieals promises to provide an ' exciting
summer for theatregoers.
Just to -refresh everyone's memory,
PLAYHOUSE II is the newest addition to

opened last July and housed splendid pro-
ductions of ' 18 Wheels, The Return of the
Curse of the Mummy's Revenge and Eight

Heather Redick, HCP General Manager,
commented, "Last year ticket sales in
PLAYHOUSE II started out slowly, but, by
the end of the first few weeks, the cast was
playing to capacity crowds. We are all very
proud of the new theatre and pleased with
the reception it received."

Romantics out for fun
By Janet Tench
The Romantics' new LP, In Heat, is load-
ed with hot music. "Talking In Your Sleep"'
is right up-to-date with, the dance music
revival.
The Romantics have always been con-
cerned with their image. This is seen an the
LP, cover where the band poses, looking
tough, just like Loverboy. Recently, they,
dashed through a burning hotel to save... no,
not a child, but their new leather and
snakeskin costumes. "Man, if we lose this
stuff, we might as well give it up," said
drummer Jimmy Marinos: This incident eat -
plains to me that the band is making music
simply because a musician lives a fun life. 1
guess they haven't read Comeback.
1The songs on the album are typical
anything -to -put -on -an -album -that's -fun
tunes. "Love Me to the Max" is a good ex-
ample. This song has a fun beat, but nothing
-. lyrics. I found that many of the songs here
are reminiscent of old Stones music - good
rock. The themes all deal with lovers ... ho-
hum.
In Heat, is nothing to get into a fervor
about. Wally Palmer (vocals), Mike Skill
(guitar), Coz Canter '( guitar) and Marenas
are out for fun and fame. They have talent,
as "Talking In Your Sleep" shows, but this
song is unlike any other on the album. If you
don't like'the Stones, just buy the single. If
you don't like the Romantics, try Duran '
Duran. Rating 7/10. .
