Council will support
day care issue
WINGHAM - The Wingham- Council -has .
given virtually unanimous support to a
recommendation that the town should press
the Ontario government for changes to .
regulations which threaten the existence of
municipally run, rural day care centres.
While council hasn't decided what specific
form its action should take, the issue will be..
discussed at their next meeting.
The recommendation to petition the
Ministry of Community and .Social Services
for changes in new day• care regulations
which would more than double fees, was one
of two contained in a report to council.
•The second, also accepted by council,
approved the formation of a committee to
investigate alternative ways of keeping the
Wingham Day Care Centre open.
Councillor Jack Kopas, one of the
members of the ad hoc committee, told
council, "The provincial government has
changed the rules of the game andwe're
being asked to continue to play with the
same -team -but- with -a• budget- reduced by --
about five -sixths, $50,000." •
He stressed that there is a battle to be
fought at the political level and the com-
mittee is asking the town council to pick up
the fight. He noted that there is too much at
stake to abandon the day care centre.

Wingham hospital
gets top rating.
WINGHAM - The physiotherapy depar-
tment at the Wingham and District Hospital
has been awarded an Accreditation of
Services certificate.
Presented by the 5,000 -member Canadian
Physiotherapy Association (CPA), the
award indicates the high quality of services
which the hospital's physiotherapy
department provides.
Mrs. Signe Holstein, president of the CPA
said the goal of the accreditation program is
to promote, by voluntary means, the best
quality care possible.
The CPA said that physiotherapy
programs in Canada now rank among the
best in the world.
