Soft colours flatter bride's mother
For mothers and soon to be mothers-in-
law of blushing brides, choosing a gown this
season will be easy.
Soft pastels of mauve, pink, gray and blue
in delicate chiffonsand '"ti'nely-woven knits"

wedding. Try to choose a dress he a soft
colour, as bolder, bright shades often
upstage the bride and are not as flattering to
mature woman.
If you're planning to spend a large sum of
money dti the dress, go for a seasonless style
and colour so you can be assured of having
an opportunity to wear it again. A long
sleeved jacket over a bar dress is another
way to get extra mileage.
Select either a long gown or cocktail
length, depending on the size and formality
of the wedding. If the bride is going tradi-
tional, it's perfectly acceptable for the
mother and mother-in-law to wear floor
length dresses, regardless'of the size of the
guest list. If you wpn't have many opportun-
ities to wear a long gown after the wedding,
it can usually- be shortened -into a cocktail
AldLough'sequins andrhinestones are not
the order of the day, clever, new ornamen-
tation on dresses, such as braiding, quilted
trims and ruffles, all add -a festive touch to
otherwise simple gowns.
A new look in synthetic chiffons is
permanent pleating. It has a distinctive
designer look,. is easy to care a for and,
depending on the style, can be seasonless.
Necklines and sleeve lengths run the
gamut, so please yourself but don't bare too
much. It's best to consult with the bride if
you're unsure about colour or detail. After
all, it's her day.
Mothers follow formal trend
The single biggest difference between
today's mothers of the bride and groom and,
their yesteryear counterparts is the fact that
they are infinitely more fashion conscious,
slimmer and younger looking than before.
Designers and manufacturers of bridal
wear have finally realized that there is a
need for attractive, appropriate garments for
members of the wedding party- besides the
bride. Selections in Metro stores are much
better than in previous years. This year's
favourite colours are the romantic shades of
mauve, violet, hyacinth, dusty rose, peach,
pale gray, cobalt and aubergine.
Many mothers prefer either two piece
gowns or desses with cover up jackets or
sheer overblouses that tend to camouflage a
thickening waist (one of the few figure
problems mothers of the bride and groom
may have).
They're following the brides and are
