Young brides want to feel
like storybook princess
Brides are taking the opportunity to dress
and feel like a storybook princess when they
walk down the aisle. Since the fairytale ,
wedding of Diana, Princess of Wales, brides --
'are -choosing-yards of =fluffy, •white tullo,
appliqued lace, pearls, rhinestones and a
train that runs the length of the aisle.
The trend this season is to be a new kind
of bareness for brides. Lower necklines
feature re -embroidered net yokes ,and tear
drop collars and demure off the shoolder
sleeves are puffy and romantic.
Another important feature is a new waist-
line that often drops to a point in the front of
a fitted bodice. The silhouette is like an
Elizabethan gown right down to the
exaggerated shoulders and sleeves that end
in a fight -buttoned cuff.
Self covered- buttons trailing the -length -of

Big flowing skirts are favoured but for
daytime or more casual weddings, ballerina
length dresses are increasing in popularity. -
Although white is still going strong,
shades off cream and ivory are popular for
brides who want something different.
There are no rules about the kind of dress
a bride should choose. It's simply a matter of
falling in love with a gown that makes you
feel like Cinderella.
Second time brides choose
glamour over fantasy look
Regal, ruffled confections of tulle, satin
and lace are holding their own for tradition
loving brides of '84. But more and more
older and second time brides want a look
that is more sophisticated and glamorous.
than it is fairytale princess.
Today's second time bride is likely to
prefer a•classically elegant but practical look
that adapts to other dressy occasions. That
doesn't mean she isn't entitled to her
moment of romantic radiance. Versatile but
elegant ready to wear cocktail styles often
are a fraction of the price of a traditional.
wedding gown and gracefully make the
transition from vyedding-totheatre-or-dinner.
White is still a favourite colour, especially
attractive for spring weddings in crisp
cottonpique, cotton voile or silk. This spring,
pale peach and bewitching silvery shades of
gray, mauve, slate blue and dusty pale pink
offer a welcome relief from cutesy pastel
colours that should never leave the nursery.
For the bride who has a sense of
adventure and likes to go her. •own wa,y,
sensuously sort leather and suede in white or
muted pastel shades offer a smart new
option.
Hemlines tend to hover at the knee,
although mid calf and even longer looks
terrific if the silhouette is narrow and sleek.
Elaborate headpieces are out of tune with
the more . understated mood of second
weddings, but a classically smart cloche or
small brimmed bat is a perfect finishing
touch to a tailored ensemble. ,
Lace gloves, in either wrist or three quater
length versions, add a bit of feminie whimsy
to a , very special day.
