The guest speaker was Mrs. Joan Robin- son who gave instructions and showed samples of strip quilting done on vests and stuffed animals. She also demonstrated the correct method to be used in candlewick - ii g. She was introduced by Mrs. Alex McGregor and thanked by Mrs. Ernest Whitehouse for her helpful and informative demonstration: Kippen East ladies were pleased to accept an invitation to Staffa March 7 and to Huron - 'dale March 28. Sunshine Convenor w -is voted more money and it was decided to do another quilt at the home of Mrs. Harry Caldwell starting Feb. 20 with a pot luck din- ner. UCW news The Feb. meeting of the UCW was held in • the Sunday School rooms with 13 members present. The worship led • by Mrs. Bill Charters was centred around the theme of 1,01/e. President Mrs. Lloyd Cooper opened the business section with a poem. The social committee presented their budget and catering prices for the coming year .and. outlined future projects to be undertaken. Plans for entertaining at Queensway Nurs- ing Home, Hensall, were finalized. The topic for the evening was given by Mrs. David Cooper. The president reviewed • ;the -mkt meeting to -be March 13 at .8 -p.m. . Courtesy remarks were given by Mrs. Laird F'inlayson. A Valentine dessert was served by the co -hostesses Mrs. Bert Faber and • Mrs. William Consitt. 4 -fl News The second meeting of the Kippen 4-H club- was lubwas held on Feb. 14 at the home of leader Margaret Hoggarth. The president opened the meeting by leading the members in the 4-11 pledge. They decided on the name "The .Kippen Quilting Bees" for the club, which was suggested by Tara Savage.: 'there were a few changes in the offices . now .the secretary -treasurer, .and. the club ' has a rnascot, who is Aaron Savage. Next members cut out patterns, called templates, . fur the applique sample. They then started '. basic quilting sample by tracing the pattern onto material; .basting the material and the • batting together, and . then the leaders demonstrated. how to do the basic quilting stitch. . . • . After everyone had got the general idea of ' how to do. the stitch, they put the samples . aside, and opened books. to read about how • to match Colors, and how. even the smallest :I'.•raps can be used in quilting. Gresham House Antiques, on the main street in Hensall opened recently featuring English antiques including fur- niture, china, glass and silverware. Gresham House has arranged for regular shipments of antiques from Britain to arrive throughout the spring, summer and fall. The first container has arrived with the next due early April. The store is located in an older house a'497 King Street, Hensall, which blends itself ideally to,the: new enterprise. Partners in the business are Catherine Bayley and her mother Lorna Cooke. -Our first priority is to offer unusual, top quality antiques at affordable prices," says Catherine. -.And we have not limited our- selves to. small items either. Playhouse to hold dance The first of many very special events sponsored by the Huron Country Playhouse will be a dinner dance to be held at Won- derland Gardens in London on Saturday, March 3. The evening's events will commence at 6:30 p.m. with a short reception to be followed with dinner at 7:30. Dancing to the music of Phil Murphy's Band will start at 9 and continue until 1 a.m. »' Tickets to the HCP dinner dance are available from members of the Board of Directors, the Ladies Guild or from the office just outside Grand Bend.
