Father Traher. Rev. Hubert George Traher, the reverend rector et St. Marys Roman nee:hone paxish,Londell died at Mount St. Joseph on Friday last, Father Traher had. not been in good health since the beginning of the year, He suffered considerably from an af- fection of the liver, but with his usual zeal he contin, ued his labors until Thursday of last week, when ib be- came necessary to remove him to Mount St. Joseph. He Was deeply in- terested in the work at the new St. Marys church, and it was only after much persuasion that he consented to place himself entirely under the care of his physician:1, The death of their esteemed pastor will be a severe blow to the people of St, Marys parish, His worth was recognized by the head of the diocese, and -he was looked upon as the one most needed to oversee the work of the church in the south and east end of the city. That he should be cut off on the eve of the opening of the edifice is particularly sad. But St. Marys church will eyer stand as a monument to his untiring energy, Rev. Father Traher was born in England nearly fifty years ago, and came to London when a small boy. Father Traher was one of the first priests ordained in St Peter's Cathe- dral, the ceremony taking place in July 1885. Hewes first- stationed at Wallaceburg, as assistant, and after- wards at St. Thotuas, as assistant, to i,he late Father Flannery. While there be had the oversight of the work at Alvinston, Port Stanley and Dut- ton. Wheii the parish of Simcoe was established, with Port Dover as a mis- sion, Father Traher was placed ,in charge, and there he labored faithful- ly. His next station was Mt. Carmel, and it was there he was particularly successful. A new church had been erected there by the late Father Kelly, and when Father Traher took charge the mortgage amounted to $10,000. ln less than three years Father Trailer presented the late Bishop Walsh with the mortgage and $100 in cash. Father Traher was an eloquent preacher, and Was undoubtedly one of the -most devoted priests in the dio- cese. He was something of a genius, being an artist and nauscian of ability. He had overseen the work at the new church, and was practically the de- signer of the altar at the edifice. Father Trailer is suryived by his father. who is a resident of London, two sisters and nephews and nieces. The funeral took place from the new church on Monday. The late Fath sr Traher has many friends in •this lo- • cality who regret to hear of his demise.
