During the day, bats hang upsidedown whr-
ever they will be left alone. Hollow trees, attics,
mine shafts, and abandoned buildings are all per-
fect places for bats. Church bell towers make a
good daytime home for bats, which is why there's •
the old saying, "Bats in the belfry".
People are often afraid of bats becausethey are
associated With night and dark spiviky abandoned
places. If o bat is found inside a room, people
often get frantic with fear and try to knock it
down with a broom. This describes someone —0
"going batty". Going batty is silly because bats
will leave a room if the window is open and the
door shut.
