Patricia Bos, Gro 3, Clinton Christian School Remembering that special Christmas My Best Christmas Last year was my best Christmas. I am going to tell you about it. We went to the Brussels Legion for supper. I got to see two of my friends, Brian and Jeff. We played darts and pool and then we had supper. For supper we ate chicken, corn and a bunch of other things. About half an hour after sup- per we got to open our presents and then we played with them. At 10:00 we went home. By Kevin Jones Gr. 2 Huron Centennial I missed the bus My best Christmas was last year. Because I missed the bus at my baby sitters and I got to put up the tree. At my Grandma's house I got a video game and a makeup kit. After we opened the presents we had supper and after we had supper we played games. I got most of the pennies I got a lot of toys and clothes. by Jennifer -Hargreaves Gr. 2 Huron Centennial A Dog and a Race Set My Best Christmas was when I snuck downstairs and opened all my presents, and got all the stuff out of my stocking. My dad was surprised when he saw a dog jumpout of the box. When I went to my Gramma's, I saw a big present that was to me. I opened the box, and I saw a new race set. That was the best Christmas I've ever had! Chris Taylor Gr. 1 Huron Centennial The true meaning of Christmas And there, under a bright star stood three shepherds and their flock off sheep, when some beautiful angels came down from the sky. The shepherds were terrified. "Fear not," said the angels, "for we bring you tidings of great joy. On this day in the city of David, a child has been born in a manger and his name shall be Jesus. Take him gifts and presents to welcome him." The shepherds started off on a long journey to welcome the little baby Jesus. At last they came to the stable where baby Auto Body Painting =' and Repair CALL US! Kings brought him treasures such as Frankincense, Gold and Myrh. A little shepherd boy took him a baby lamb. All these gifts were appreciated very much by Mary and Joseph. From that very long time ago, right to this day in 1983, we have celebrated Christ's birth. We call it Christmas instead. Alison Jongejan Gr. 4 Clinton Christian School CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21,19113—PAGE 3A Sing for supper, revive a C Christmas caroling is one tradition that in recent years has been lost in the midst of a more modern Christmas. Reviving it and starting anew, is simply a matter of pulling on a warm hat, gathering up good friends (hopefully with on -key voices), and cir- culating through the neighborhood: Of course, it would also help to know the words to the familiar tunes, and even a little history about where those songs came from. "Silent Night" for example, was sup- posedly written in 1818 by Joseph Mohr. A priest at the St. Nicholos Church in Obern- dorf, Austria. Mohr decided that the night should be filled with music, in spite of a broken organ. Mohr and the schoolmaster and church organist Franz Gruber, together created the now -famous song. Mohr, a ristmas tr, closet poet, wro; < the words and Gruber set it to music on the guitar. It was completed and sung on Christmas Eve in 1818. "Adeste Fideles," was written around 1750 by John F. Wade, an Englishman who composed hymns as a hobby. He originally wrote the song in Latin, thus the adeste fideles title. The song was first sung at the Roman Catholic College in Lisbon, Por- tugal. "Angels We Have Heard on High" is one of those songs with an unknown origin. Sup- posedly the song, often known as "Glory In Excelsis Deo" was sung by the angels on the night of Christ's birth. However, legend has it that St. Telesphorus, Bishop of Rome, is the man who popularized it, ordering it sung in all diti churches on Christmas Eve. Another legend attributes its rise to popularity to Westminster Abbey, since it was often per- formed there. Other Christmas carols do not have such deep rooted pasts, but continue to be favorites during the holidays. "I'll be Home for Christmas" was written by Kim Gannon, Walter Kent, and Buck Ram. Then there's "Home for the Holidays" with words by Al Stillman, and music by Robert Allen. "A Holly Jolly Christmas" was written by Jonny Marks and first introduced on the TV show "Rudolph the Red -Nosed Reindeer." Spending a hot Christmas in Florida 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the town No noses were frozen, no snow fluttered down. No children in flannels were tucked into bed They all wore shorty pyjamas instead. To find wreaths of holly was not very hard For holly trees grew in every back yard. In front of the house, there were Daddy and Mom Adorning the crotons and coconut palm. The fast -asleep kiddies were dreaming with glee, Hoping for water skiis under the tree. They all knew that Santa was well on his way, Driving a sports car instead of a sleigh. He whizzed up the highway and turned down the road In a flashy Corvette, delivering his load. As he jumped from the car, he gave a deep chuckle, He was dressed in Bermudas, with an Ivy League buckle. There weren't any chimneys, but that caus- ed no gloom, For Santa came in through the Florida room. He stopped at each house, staying only a minute, Emptying his bag of the toys that were in it. Before he departed he treated himself To the glass of papaya juice left on the shelf. He turned with a bounce, and leaped into the _ car, Remembering he still had to go very far. Turning the key, he stepped on the gas, And up Highway 1 he went in a flash; But I heard him exclaim, e're he went on his way, "Merry Christmas, Palm Beachers! I wish I could stay!" Author unknown.
