This was partly due to the Walkathon, held in October. Pro-life issues are also better covered in many newspaprs across the country this year. Perhaps the Morgentaler trial is also partly responsible for this increased interest. Some newspapers have published an arti- cle comparing the fate of the passengers off the Korean Boeing 707, shot down in Septebmer by the Soviets, to the fate of the aborted (unborn) . The article focuses on the injustice involved in both cases as well ^n The Orchestra London Sinfonia, conducted by Robert Riseling, combined with the Goderich Harbouraires, under the direction of Lorne Dotterer, to present a Chrsitmas Concert 1983 at North Street United Church Saturday evening. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Goderich with financial assistance from the Sully Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council, the concert was the second in a series of three concerts. Guest conductor Lionel Newman will take Orchestra Ladon through some Hollywood favorites Saturday, February 25 at the GDCI auditorium. ( photos by Dave Sykes) Clinton and area obituaries Howard Cowan An active community worker, Howard G. Cowan, of Clinton died in London's University Hospital on Dec. 3. He was 79 - years old. Mr. Cowan lived in Clinton for 50 years and had long associations with several organizations. He worked as a carpenter, but served with the Clinton Fire Department and was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 140, Clinton. He was also a elder for St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church for 31 years. Born in Toronto on Dec. 29, 1903, he was one of the remaining members of the Minnie and William Henry Cowan family. He is survived by one sister Mrs. Lon (Nell) Matthews of Clinton and was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, George and John, and two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Isabel) Brown and Mrs. Duncan (Meme) Armbrest. Mr. Cowan is also survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Lilian Liddell. Two sons, Jack of Belmont and Mike of London also survive, along with three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. F'uneral services were held at the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton on Dec. 6 with Rev. T.A. Duke officiating. Interment followed in the Clinton Cemetery. Luella Frances Cox Luella Frances Cox, a lifelong area resident, died at Huronview on Dec. 9. The 85 -year old Goderich Township, native was born on Oct. 3, 1898 to William and Luella Lobb. On Dec. 20, 1919 she married the late Rev. Charles D. Cox in Goderich Township. Rev. Cox died in $975. Mrs. Cox is survived by one daughter Mrs. Earl (Bertha) Gerber of Nipissing, one grandson Dr. Douglas Gerber of London and one great granddaughter Allison Gerber. She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Lorne ( 011ie) Jervis of Holmesville, Mrs. George (Elsie) Henderson of Huronview, Mrs. Norman (Vera) Wilson of Sarnia and Mrs. Robert (Joy) Williamson of London. She was predeceased by one sister Mrs. Norman I Minnie) Snyder and five brothers, Bert, Clifford, Fred, Frank and Mervyn Lobb. Robert Turner A lifelong Huron County resident, Robert Borden Turner of Goderich died at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich on Nov. 28. He was in his 76th year. He was married in the 1930s to the former Isobel McWhinney and the couple and their family lived in the Auburn area for many years. Mr. Turner worked as a farmer, with Huron County and as caretaker of Ball's Cemetery before retiring to Goderich. Along with his wife Mr. Turner is survived by four children, Kenneth of Strathroy, Mrs. Leonard (Shirley) Mann of Strathroy, Mrs. Wayne (Lynn) Allin of Goderich and Barry of British Columbia. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great gran- dchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters James Turner of Clinton, Mrs. Shirley Duckworth of Goderich, Mrs. Katherine Fowler of London, Mrs. Mary Griffiths of Niagara Falls and Mrs. Annie Allen of Seaforth. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held at the Tasker Funeral Home in Blyth on Nov. 30 with Gary Shuttleworth officiating. Interment followed at Ball's Cemetery in Hullett Township. Pallbearers were Dan McPhee, Fred and Bill Seers, Tom Haggitt and Bob Arthur. DORIAN S. RUTLEDGE Dorian S. Rutledge of 1814 Culver Drive, London, died in Victoria Hospital, South Street l;ampus, London, on Saturday, December 3 in his 56th year. He was born in Dungannon, Ontario on April 29, 1928 to Roy and Viola (Gibson) Rutledge. The late Mr. Rutledge once owned a garage business in Clinton and was a member of the Harbouraires while living in Goderich for many years. He was also a member of North Street United Church in Goderich where he sang in the choir. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Whaites) Rutledge; four sons, Terry, Martin, Bill and Larry; four stepsons, Jim, Robert, Brian and Frank; two step- daughters, Donna and Pat; his father, Roy Rutledge of Huronview in Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Harry (June) Montgomery of Goderich and Mrs. A. (Betty) Crandlemire of Red Deer, Alberta; three grandchildren; and four step -grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Mrs. Viola Rutledge; and two sons, Dennis and Kevin. Visitation was at the Needham Funeral Chapel, 520 Dundas Street, London, on Monday, December 5 where the funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, December 6 at 1:30 p.m. by the Reverend Douglas S. Warren of Rowntree Memorial United Church. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Two points particular- ly well expressed in this section are: 1. "It's an indisputable fact that human life begins at conception. 'here can be no other starting point." 2. "A baby is genetically complete at con- ception." This ad also answers frequently asked questions, such as, "Are abortions ever necessary for medical reasons?" There is soon to be a road sign, donated by the Goderich chapter of Right to Life Association. It will be located on Highway 4, south of Blyth.
