Even thougir area hockey players and
figure skaters are eagerly looking forward
to the re -opening of the Clinton arena, the in-
flux of donations to the fund has slowed to a
trickle. The total climbed only $1,086 this
week to $51,360.
Although its been nearly four months
since the initial polio scare hit the area, its
impact had enough force, to have vaccina-
tion clinics set up, according to the Huron
County Health Unit.

Town police discovered a car, here on
Monday which had been reported stolen
from a Guelph resident the day before.
Recovery was made at the front of W.
Morlock's home on Gibbons Street. There
was no evidence to show how it had arrived
there from Guelph.
Bad weather and too much snow was
blamed for the poor turnout to the polls in
Hullet Township on Monday, when less than
half of the ratepayers made the trip.

A Clinton mother was preparing some
beans for the family evening meal the other
day when her little daughter who was wat-
ching her remarked, "Mamma, do you
know that I'm made of two beans." "Why
what do you mean?" her perplexed mother
asked. "Well," continued the child pointing
to her head, "this is one bean, then" poin-
ting to her body, "I'm a human bein"'.
The News -Record is not giving out calen-
dars to children any more.
These calendars, which we procure each
year for our paidup subscribers, cost us
money, real hard earned cash, and we have
discovered that when given to children they
are often opened up on the street and pro-
bably torn or smeared before they do reach
them. Our subscribers are asked to call
themselves or send a reliable person for
their calendar, which will not be given to
children any longer, for while some children
may be quite trustworthy, we cannot
discriminate.

Mr. Thos. Watson has opened a new flour
and feed store in the premises lately oc-
cupied by Mr. Wm. Core, on Huron Street.
Mr. Watson's experience is a guarantee for
his properly conducting the business, and he
will no doubt, receive a liberal patronage
from the citizens of Clinton. A good trade
should be done in the flour and feed business
here.
He didn't bring the engagement ring to
her the night he had promised, because he
was walking with another girl, and the
engaged girl heard of it. So the first thing
she did when he called on her the next even-
ing was to take him by the left ear and shake
him about at a painful rate. "What's that?"
he yelled. "That sir, is the engagement ring
- and it will ring just the same way every
time I hear of you walking with another
girl...
Watch your back
when shovelling
Think of your back this winter when you
shovel snow, advises the Industrial Accident
Prevention Association.
Push, don't lift snow whenever possible.
. Never overload your shovel.
o Lift with your knees, keeping your back
straight.
Keep hands widely separated for good
leverage.
Protect your back and it will work for you.
