Open house honors 95th
birthday of Mary Rollinson
Mrs. Mary Rollinson was honoured last
Thursday when Open House was held by
neighbours to celebrate her 95th birthday.
The home was attractively decorated with a
birthday cake with bronze and yellow roses
and also an attractive floral arrangement
with yellow and bronze fall flowers. Her
daughter Mrs. Alfred (Isabel) Weston of
Toronto and her son Murray had given their
mother a bouquet of red roses.
The 60 or more guests were welcomed by
Mrs. Frances Clark and all signed a large
birthday card. Birthday cake and ice-cream
were served by Mrs. 'Marjorie McDougall,
Mrs. Tom Haggitt, Mrs. Frank Raithby,
Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs. Tom Lawlor.
Mrs. Rollinson was born near Auburn in
West Wawanosh Township and is the
daughter of the late Thomas and Mary
Lawlor. On December 30, 1913 she was
married to the late Alfred Rollinson and has
lived in Auburn ever since. She is a member
of Knox United Church, Auburn and has
many hobbies, making quilts and mats and
playing her electric organ.
She received many cards, gifts and
flowers to mark the occasion.
On Friday, she had three nieces visit with
her and her son, Murray, Mrs. Pearl
Anderson, Mrs. Hazel Smith and Mrs.
Florence Reed, all of Goderich. One Sunday,
her daughter Isabel and her husband, Mr.
Weston came to spend a couple of days with
their mother and brother.
Family Night held at Hall
The annual Family Night of the Auburn Verbs and Dwight Caldwell played three
Horticultural Society and the Auburn selections on his guitar. Another interesting

Club hold successful bazaar

Former teacher dies
in Extendicare Home
A former Auburn resident, Ruth Ellen
Giffen, passed -away at the Extendicare
Nursing, Home" in Scarborough on Monday,
November 14 in her 88th year.
She was born in Hullett Township, Con-
cession 13, the daughter of James Jackson
and Eliza Edrnunston.
She was a school teacher and was married
to Harvey Giffen. They resided for many
years at Wasaga Beach and then Guelph.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Len
Agnes) Parry of Agincourt; grandchildren,
Sandy, Ellen and Susan McLennan and
Dorothy and Linda Warrington; and one
great-grandchild, Andrew.
She was predeceased by her husband and
one daughter, Mrs. Norma McLelland_ She
was also predeceased by three brothers,
William, Dr. John E. and Ernest.
The funeral service was held last Wed-
nesday at the McIntyre and Wilkie Funeral
Home, Delhi Street, Guelph with burial in
Guelph cemetery.
Lucinda Robison dies
A former resident of Auburn, Mrs.
William T. Robson, passed away of her
home in Toronto on November 15.
Lucinda Janette Robison was the beloved
wife of the late William T. Robison of
Auburn and the former wife of the late
Reverend Eric L. Anderson of Lambeth.
She is survived by three daughters,
Bernice ( wife of the Reverend H.F. Currie)
of Stratford, Joan (Mrs. I.W. Stephenson) of
Mississauga and Jetrid (Mrs. M.C.
Osmond) of Toronto; sister, Barbara (wife
of the late Reverend T.W. Hazelwood) of
Toronto; nine grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the Turner and
Porter "Peel" Chapel in Mississauga on
Friday with burial on Saturday morning at
11 o'clock at Woodland Cemetery, London.
Piano greets visitors
A piano duet by Mrs. Irene Milken and
Mrs. Lori Millian greeted members of Knox
United Church for the Sunday morning
worship. The ushers were Peter Verbeek
and Steven Verbeek and the choir sang the
anthem, Sing to the Lord.
Gary Shuttleworth's sermon was entitled,
.'The Perfect Man". Mrs. Shelley Worsell
and Mrs. Gail Dobie supervised the junior
congregation.

A special ordination service was held last
Sunday in the Huron Chapel Missionary
church for David Thiessen. The Reverend
Edwin Prosser, district superintendent of
the Missionary Church, Canada East, of-
ficiated for the service that was held at 3
p.m. The scripture lesson was read by the
Reverend Henry Runhart, pastor of the
Listowel Missionary Church. The ordination
message was given by the Reverend J.E.
Montgomery, pastor of the Zephyr
Missionary Church. Two solos were sung by
Mrs. Pam Thiessen. Following the im-
pressive ceremony for Mr. Thiessen, a time
of fellowship followed in the basement of the
church.

Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Lawrence for their 43rd wedding
anniversary dinner were: Mrs. Irene
Dickey and Gary Collins off Ripley, Mr. and
Mrs. John and Audrey Rutledge and family
of Belgrave Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kerr and
family of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. Gary
Smith and Melinda of Dungannon, Mr. and
Mrs. Barry and Kathy Austin and twin sons

congratulate them on this occasion.

Twenty-four ladies attended the rug
braiding course on Monday morning and
saw pictures taken at other summary days
by other counties that had completed the
project last year. The lacing of the braids to
make rugs and placemats was demon-
strated and all members did a sample.
Mrs. Edgar Deer arrived home last
Thursday evening after a very enjoyable
two week's visit to Harkstede, Holland. She
accompanied Mrs. Mrs. Mary Smid of
Kincardine, formerly of Blyth, when she
attended her parents' 40th wedding an-
niversary at Delfzijl, Holland. This town is
situated on the border between Holland and
Germany. They toured Germany and said
that the weather was good and the scenery
was picturesque.
Mrs. R.J. Young of Stratford and her son
Craig Ritchie of Goderich visited last
Saturday with Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss
Laura Phillips.
The Reverend and Mrs. Wayne Good of
Port Elgin visited on Monday with Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Raithby.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Eston of Toronto
visited on the weekend with her mother,

Mrs. Gerry Beimers returned home last
week after several weeks as a patient in
Wingham Hospital and University Hospital
in London after she suffered from a free-
tured hip.
Winners at the weekly euchre party held
in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall
last week were: novelty - Mrs. Tom
Lawrence, high lady - Mrs. Dave Scott, low
lady - Mrs. Donald Cartwright, high man -
Elliott Lapp and low man - Donald Haines.
The winner of last week's mini -lottery
draw held by the Auburn and District Lions
Club was John Bannister.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rodger and Glen of
South Mountain, Mr. and Mrs. Les Rodger of
Belleville, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rodger of
Toronto and Mrs. Pearl Rollinson of Toronto
spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Emerson Rodger.
Donald Mallory of Kirkaldy, Alberta and
Mrs. Henry Ferguson of Champion, Alberta
visited their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver
Anderson, for a few days last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines returned last
week after visiting with Mrs. Haines' sister,

Visit Manor
Several Auburn citizens went to Maitland
Manor last Wednesday to entertain the
residents who were celebrating birthdays in
November. The program was planned by
Mrs. Emerson Rodger.
Mrs. Cathy Wiebe, activity director of
Maitland Manor, was chairman for the
program.
Readings from the old fourth reader, The
Song my Paddle Sings and My Native Land,
were given by Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock.
Oliver Anderson played violin selections,
accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Marjorie
McDougall. Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs.
Emerson Rodger sang two duets, Carolina
Moon and The Bible Tells Me So. Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Robinson played mouthorgan
duets accompanied on the autoharp by Mrs.
Edith Walker of Goderich.
Mrs. Charles Gibbons thanked the Auburn
people for giving the program and birthday
cake and coffee were served to everyone.
