Grade 2 students at Holmesville Public
School put their imaginations to work this
week and wrote some scary Halloween
stories.
Ghosts, goblins, witches, black cats and
things that go thump in the night are all
included in these spooky tales.
Halloween. We go trick -or -treating. It is fun.
BOO! -by Rhonda Stacey.
Boo, boo, boo
The goblin banged the ceiling. She lit her
candle and went down stairs. Then the door
opened. Boo boo boo - there was a ghost. -by
Hadi Feltham.
Haunted house
Once upon a time I went trick or treating.
I went into what you would call a haunted
house. It was awful. Then I heard a rustling
sound. It scared me. It seems like a ghost
was there! -by Heather Bartlet.

Kendra Fry needed two pages to describe
the sound of a branch hitting her bedroom
window. Kendra did well describing her
thoughts'and using clever description. She is
a Grade 2 student from Holmesville Public
School. ( Wendy Somerville Photo )
The mystery thump
One dark and lonely night as I was dusting
off my broomstick, I heard the strangest
sound. Thump! thump! thump! I went
upstairs. There was nothing there. I was
afraid. Then I went in to my room. I heard
the sound again. Thump! thump! thump!
Looking out my window I saw an old branch
hitting the side of the house. That was the
end of the mystery. -by Kendra Fry.
I'm not scared
Halloween is scary but I dress as a clown -
that doesn't scare you. We have fun on
Steven McClinchey of Grade 2 realized that
the only way he would get rid of a strange
sound would be to offer whoever the culprit
was, some candy as a peace offering. When
he realized that the sound was a banging
door, he naturally did the next best thing, he
ate the candy! (Wendy Somerville Photo)
A noisy door
I was afraid so I went outside with a bag
and I went to the store to get some candy. I
went where I heard the noise to give the
candy to what ever was there, but there was
nothing there. So I ate the candy. The noise I
heard was only the door blowing shut. -by
Steven McClinchey.
The sound of rustling feet was easily
described by Heather Bartlet of Holmesville
Public School. The Grade 2 student cleverly
associated haunted houses and ghosts with
an exciting evening of trick or treating.

Halloween hiding
One dark and lonely night as I was dusting
off my broom stick I heard the strangest
sound. Thump Thump. I thought it was a
goblin. I was afraid so I ran up stairs, and
hid under the bed. It came up stairs too and
scared me. -by Shannon Schilbe.

Strange sounds
It sounded like a goblin and an owl making
an eerie hoot. I was afraid. I didn't know
what to do, so I went outside. I was still
afraid. What could It be? Oh it's only the
neighbour's kids trick or treating. -by Krista
Kuntz.
An angry witch
Once upon a time there was a memy old
witch. She lived with a black cat and a ghost.
Soon it was Halloween. They were very
angry because they didn't want to go out on
Halloween. -by Billy Trick.
The ghost
One night I saw a shadow, it made me
shiver. It went around the block and it
scared me. It said BOO. I turned around and
there was a big white ghost. -by Heather
Lobb.
A witch?
I heard a chuckle. I thought it was a witch.
Then I heard a rattle and I was afraid. It
was a scary night. It was Halloween. -by
Tyler White.
The magic
of Halloween
By Helen Owen
When witches ride their broomsticks, it is
that special night
And grinning pumpkin faces are lit with
ghostly light.
Then troops of costumed children make
their way along the street
Fairies and clowns and supermen are seek-
ing 'trick or treat'.
And those who once were children, (and did
it all before)
Await their little visitors when they come to
the door
For behind them, in the hallway, are the
goodies all prepared
The candy bars, and apples and cookies to
be shared.
There are skeletons and Pacmen, scarlet
devils, ghosts in white
All of whom collect their goodies - then are
off into the night,
Until at last with bags of treats, and tired
and aching feet
They scurry home, and once again, its quiet
along the street.
Maybe the witches then go home, riding
aloft, serene
Themselves bewitched by the magic spells
of the night of Halloween.

goblins so vividly that writing poetry to ex-

was no problem for the Holmesville public
school student. (Wendy Somerville Photo)
