Regional President Joyce Dowson presid- ed over the meeting. Bayfield UCW was in charge of registration and the Goshen UCW served cake and coffee while members viewed the literature table. Organ music provided by Anna Keyes was enjoyed prior to the service and a sing -a -long put everyone m good spirits. The Rally theme was Laugh, The Bible Laughs with You. Worship on this theme was led by Ruby Hill of Varna UCW assisted by Margaret McClymont, Joan Beierling, Margaret Hayter and Mona Stephenson who read amusing stories from the scriptures. Thoughts worth remembering were "You cannot spread joy unless you are a joyful person" and "Christian Hospitality is in- separable from Chrisitan life". Joyce welcomed everyone and introduced the assistant president Ruth Axtanann. Goshen president Linda Linfield also welcomed the guests and expressed delight at the large attendance. Lori and Scott Jewitt of Clinton delighted the audience with Lori singing a solo and then doing a song and dance number with her brother Scott. Secretary for the evening, Mary Chessell read the minutes of the last rally and 135 answered the roll call. The Presbyterial Treasurer, Jean Hanky gave the treasurer's report andresented the 1984 budget. An invitation from Beatrice Stoll of Brucefield to host the 1984 Rally was accepted. 1 Muriel Coultis, First Vice -President of Huron Perth Presbyterial brought grmtings and announced the new study book "Jesus Means life". Five Medical Students were supported the past year by the Medical Electives program. A letter was received from Dr. Betty Bridgeman expressing gratitude for the seeds for Zaire. The Chris- tian Symbol "fish" pins are still available to support the work off Korean Women. Egmondville UCW received and dedicated the offering of $195.50. A double trio from Goshen and Varna sang. Gwen Pemberton, Bayfield introduced the guest speaker, Angela Armitt of London, retired Dean of the faculty of Part-time and Continuing Education of the University of Western Ontario. Miss Armitt's topic was Communication - People Laughing Together. She immediately had her au- dience doing just that with a series of funny anecdotes. Some of her more serious quotes were • ° Pray for a good Harvest, but keep on 'hoeing", "it's the doom and gloom people who make the world a poor place to live" and "it's better to be 70 years young than 40 years old". She concluded her lesson in com- municating with the Irish Blessing." Ruth Axtmann of Winthrop UCW gave the courtesy remarks and Rev. Wilma Brown, Minister of Varna -Goshen the closing prayer and benediction. Huron weavers attend two clay workshop This suananer was a busy one for the Huron Tract Spinners and Weavers Guild. In June a meeting was held in Ripley on spinning. Evelyn Hardy and Laura Bean conducted the July meeting, with Laura demonstrating her woven jacket and Evelyn showing several jackets, a poncho, aprons and what to do with "thrums", odds and ends of wool. A "dye -in" was held in August at the home of Toni Vos, who is an experienced spinner and weaver. Several of the Guild members also held their second annual summer show at Benmiller, which was a success. At the September meeting, Pat Lee demonstrated leaf printing and a show and tell was also held. A two day workshop was held on September 17 and 24 on the study of stripes in warp and weft, at the home of Evelyn Hunter in London.
