Middleton - Last Sunday !nor -Tung was a
beautiful day to have our Bishop Morse
Robinson talk to a large congregation.
Following the procession and surging of
the first hyrnn, Rev. Reynolds presented the
Memorial cruets to Bishop Morrison for
Dedication and Blessing. The cruets being
in memory of Jeanne Irwin McKerracher
Bennett. The Lesson was read by Alfred
McLaughlin and the Epistle was ready by
Meagan McLaughlin. The Sermon given by
the Right Reverend Morse C. Robinson, Suf-
fragan Bishop for The Diocese of Huron.
The Intercession leader was Lois Wise.
Those confirmed were: Alfred Fletcher
McLaughlin, Tara Joan Cluff, Courtney An-
drews Mclaughliai and Meagan Anne
McLaughlin. Ray Wise and James Storey
received the offering.
We were pleased to have the choir from
Trinity Church assisting in the service.
For the service Celebrant The Rt. Rev.
Morse C. Robinson, Rector The Rev. Gordon
Reynolds, Chaplain Philip Du Boulay,
Organist Sarah Storey, Crucifer, Rob. Cluff,
Server Lisa Storey.
Following the service the church filled to
capacity with guests for lunch. The ladies of
the church served sandwiches and goodies
and coffee, before the Bishop went on to his
next stop in Seaforth.
Janice and Paul Brettle of Ottawa and
Rossanne Middleton of Toronto, Drew and
Jackie and children all visited with Ross
and Mabel Middleton.

ACW's meet
The A.C.W. of St. James' Middleton
Church Anglican met at the home of Lois
Wise with Leader Blanche Deeves in
charge.
Blanche opened the meeting by welcom-
ing everyone and thanked Lois for the use of
her home. Vera Miller read from the Living
Message. Mrs. Fred Middleton read and the
Scripture Prayers were said by all.
The business portion of the meeting
started with Vera Miller reading the
minutes and correspondence. Delores Dutot
Cif; its
gave a report on bales one ready to go, one
in the making. She also received the
Christmas gifts to be sent.
It was reported Edna MacGee is in
hospital.
Cook Book report was given with only a
few left. Calendars will be available soon.
Call Vera Miller for your order.
Thank you cards were read from Don and
Marl Wise and from Bill Steenstra.
Ail Invitation was read cordially inviting
the ladies to their 15th Anniversary Open
House, October 26, 1983 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Engaged plays host to skit

VAHNA - Anne Marie Heard of London,
formerly of Varna, was honoured with many
lovely gifts at a bridal shower at the
township hall last Thursday evening.
Bernice Reid welcomed the honored
guests, which included Mark's mother, Mrs.
Hanlon, and everyone present.
Musical entertainment was provided by
Nancy Webster, who played two piano solos,
and by a group of girls who sang and played
ukeleles. The talented girls in the group
include Mavis and Michelle Turner, Joanne
and Julie Consitt, Janet Coleman, Lori De
Wys and Jeanette Keys, with Julie Webster
at the piano.
Anne Marie's employment with Bell

in the area, led naturally to a skit about
them phoning each other and discussing
preparations for the upcoming wedding.
Joyce Taylor, with bowling shoes, cigarettes
and coffee, portrayed Nora very well.
Shirley Hill was Anne Marie, Sharon Chuter
was Aunt Clara t with her arm in a sling ),
Janet Webster was Aunt Alice ( in the middle
of a wall -papering job), and Pat Taylor was
Aunt Beulah complaining of trying to work
at the Dixie Lee with an injured knee.
Brenda Dowson read the address in verse
form, and Julie Consitt assisted Anne Marie
and the two mothers in opening her beautiful
gifts. Anne Marie expressed her delight with
everything. She and Mark have purchased a
home on Highbury Avenue in London.

Members present gave names of their
family for the quilt being made by Enter-
prising Seniors for the 150th birthday of
Goderich Township.
A donation was made to the blind and to
P.E.P.
The meeting closed with Grace. Lunch
was served by Lois Wise, Blanche Deeves
and Brenda Cleave.
U.C.W. meetin
HOLMESVILLE - The U.C.W. of
Holmesville United Church met there on Oc-
tober 11 for their Thanksgiving meeting
with Irene Cudmore and her group. Devo-
tions and the first chapter of the study book
were taken by Iona Blake, Ada Tebbutt,
Bessie Townshend, Muriel Grigg and the
leader.
A skit' was presented, "Pastor are you
nervous? with Phyllis Cox, Charlotte Nor-
man, Bessie Townshend and Irene Cud -
more, Charlotte gave a reading.
President Phyllis Cox conducted the
business.
The pennies were brought in and Mrs.
Verna Lobb's group brought in the most
pennies.
All members of each group are welcome
to the dinner October 25 at 7:00 p.m. See you
there!

Minister speaks to children

Holmesville - Don Moffat Minister of
Brucefield United Church spoke to a large
congregation in Holmesville United Chur-
ch. He told the Sunday School children about
people at a party, each was given a candy
and told a door would openif the magic word
was said. No-one could open it until a little
girl came to it, and was given a candy. She
said thank you and the door opened.
Nancy Hearn played the organ as the
Senior choir sang an anthem. Bill Crawford
and Bill Norman received the offering.
Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. will be the Anniversary
Service with Rev. Oestreicher as the guest
speaker. Coffee and cookies will tollow the
service.
Don't forget the penny supper on October
25 at 7 p.m.
Sergeant Willis Bell, formerly of Goderich
Township, has been called to go to Cyprus
on a peace keeping mission with the Cana-
dian Army. Willis lives in Fredericton, New
Brunswick. This is Willis' second trip to
Cyprus and he has served twice on peace
missions in Germany. Willis is a brother of
Art and Gerald Bell.

BRUCEFIELD - Brucefield U.C.W. held
their Thankoffering meeting on Oct. 4.
Hazel McCartney and Grace Chapman of
the Tuckersntith unit led in the worhship
about Thanksgiving faith and gave the
meditation on being thankful. Mrs. Jean
Hoffineyer of Mitchell showed slides of their
trip to the South Pacific and told of her im-
pressions of New Guinea and the other
islands. Stanley unit served lunch to the
members and guests from Hensall and Kip -
Mrs. Louise Hallam has returned after
holidavin.' +hrcn weeks in Penticton. B.C.
While there she was a bridesmaid for a
girlfriend and visited her mother at
Williams Lake, B.C.
Mrs. Mary Smith of Kitchener and Mrs.
Jean Provost of London spent the weekend
with their parents Mr. and Mrs. John Broad -
foot.
Miss Elizabeth McLaughlin of Montreal
and Mr. and Mrs. Peter McLaughlin of
Toronto visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Scott.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Scott and son (If
Willowdale spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Scott.

Henry's Picnic
One day Ilene the mouse and his mother were
down at the harbour watching the big boats come

Henn was much too excited to notice the sound
of the ship's whistle. and people shouting abose
