Blyth United Church News
Rev. Ken Bauman's sermon last Sunday
at the Blyth United Church dealt with the
subject of Perseverance and was made
powerful by his lucid reading..
Church Teen Nite was held Sunday even-
ing in John Leibold's home, and Teen Movie
Nite is being held on Friday at Dean
Iawrie's home.
Blyth United Church's 21st Anniversary
Celebration is Oct. 30 at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00
p.m. Everyone is looking forward to Rev.
Bauman's messages and the choir's special
music.
UCW Thankoffering
The annual U.C.W. fall Thankoffering ser-
vice was held last Sunday night. A fair
number of Blyth ladies, invited guests from
Donneybrook and Calvin Brick churches,
and two men, brave enough to respond to the
ladies' invitation, attended.
Susan Howson introduced the speaker
Mrs. Margaret Robinson of CHSS teaching
staff, who last year spent five months in
Java, Indonesia, teaching English to mostly
Moslem children. She went under the spon-
sorship of Christian Communications Inter-
national.
Mrs. Robinson showed slides which she
took in the locality in which she worked. The
included pictures of housing, field crops,
field workers and the homes of the rich.
Women from an early age are trained to
carry very heavy loads. Her viewers were
horrified at the primitive living standards
and unsanitary conditions that still exist.
Before refreshments were served in the
Church Hall, people lined up to see Mrs.
Robinson's diversified display of Indonesian
souvenirs ranging from tea to dolls.
Mrs. Robinson began last Oct. to book her
travelogue for which she charged a set fee.
With only two more showings to give, she
will have achieved her goal - to send more
than several thousand dollars via Ceda to
Indonesia, to go towards the building of a
badly needed Christian school.
President June Peck thanked the charm-
ing speaker for her generous commentary
and presented her with Blyth U.C.W.'s gift
of money for her project.
St. Michael's CWL
"Something to be thankful for on
Thanksgiving" was the roll call answered
by eleven members of St. Michael's C.W.L.
when they met on Oct. 10 at the home of
Marie Heffron.
Mary Sanders reported that the Pro -Life
Rally in Toronto was well attended. Eleven
members of St. Michael's Church were
there.
League members have been asked to save
old beads and rosaries so that these may be
made into new rosaries. They were also ask-
ed to save used stamps for the Canadian
Jesuit Missions.
Twenty-five dollars will be sent to the
Whitfield family who recently lost their
barn due to fire.
Corrie Brand will be displaying and sell-
ing religious articles in St. Michael's on
November 13.
