The Huron County Board of Education
ratified a one-year contract Monday night
awarding its 365 elementary teachers and
principals a total wage increase for 1978-79
of 8.97 percent including increments for ex-
perience and qualifications.
Vanastra and Clinton have taken the in-
itial step in the formation of the Block
Parent Program. Two weeks ago a group of
Vanastra people set up an executive to
organize the project and on Monday night,
the group of Clinton people set up their ex-
ecutive.

Thousands of dollars damage was caused
Saturday night in the area when a twister
reeled in off Lake Huron shortly after 10
o'clock tossing trees, roofs, a trailer, barn
doors and plunging parts of the area into
darkness.
Huron Country Playhouse is applying for-
a
ora 1973 Local Initiative Grant to assist it
in establishing an Educational Touring
Theatre Program for area schools. It will of-
fer a complete, fully contained touring
package that allows our group to perform
anywhere in your school.

October 16, 1958
Ivan Forsyth, reeve of the township of
Tuckersmith, officiated yesterday after-
noon at ceremonies which saw the official
opening of the new Gibbings Bridge on the
new pavement from Highway 8 to the rear of
the RCAF Station Clinton.
Jewelry and other articles taken from the
Samis residence in Goderich on Sunday
night, were found on Monday afternoon by
Bob Watkins, Mary Street, while he walked
tothe farm of his uncle, Howard Hicks, con-
cession 6, Goderich Township.

Clinton yesterday afternoon gave Their
Excellencies, the Earl and Countess
Bessborough, a warm welcome when they
stopped off long enough to say How'd do.
Mr. Chas. E. Elliott, Fairhollne Dairy
Farm, has put in a new pasteurization plant
and is now supplying his customers with
milk pasteurized in glass. This is an enter-
prising expenditure on the part of Mr.
Elliott and he says some of his customers
were quite surprised to find that the milk
had been pasteurized as they detected no
difference in it.

Mr. C. Hoare is a busy man, a very busy
one, and is, able to make good. 'Though the
past season has not been considered a good
one for sales, he informs The News -Record
that he has already sold over $5,000 worth of
pianos, the purchasers living in Goderich,
Clinton and the country north and south. He
has as well $7,000 worth of instrtunents out
on rental so that it will be seen that his
hands are full. Mr. Hoare is an expert
salesman, but handling only first-class
pianos and organs makes his work easier.
Mr. James Weiss has disposed of his in-
terest in the Commercial Hotel and, in the
event of the license being transferred, will.
be leaving town at an early date. '1'hc new
landlord will be Mr. David Crawford, who
has a big circle of relatives and friends in
town and district. The old Commercial
under his management will, no doubt, con-
tinue to do a large business.

The Gauge of Gage, in school book mat-
ters as determined by the West Huron
Teachers is that he fills the bills. So far as
their voice goes they have authorized the
Gage series.
Mr. J. Sharp, Delaware, Ont., was fined $1
last week for kissing a Mrs. Emma Gran-
thunat at a social while playing the old-
fashioned game of '-forfeits". She would not
grant him such a liberty, and he was too
sharp to forfeit the privilege granted hum by
the custom of the country. Moral If you
must kiss sornebody, boys, kiss anyone but a
young married woman."

between a young lady and gentleman. (hl
the horse stretch the latter was left In the
distance about a quarter of a mile - amount
of stakes not stated.
Sewage to go
LISTOWEI, - The Ministry 01 the
Environment has approved a grant for
sanitary sewer work in Listowel.
The grant program, established by the
province to aid the undertaking of urgently
needed municipal sewage and water
projects and to widen the coverage of
provincial assistance to municipalities, will
provide grants for 75 per cent of the net
capital cost of the project.
The estimated capital cost of the work is
$189,100. After provincial grants, the debt to
Listowel will be $47,275.
