HENSALL - Stewardship was the topic for
the 'Thanksgiving meeting of Hensall United
Church Women held on Oct. 3. President
Mrs. Joyce Pepper conducted the meeting
and Mrs. Jean Wareing was Secretary.
Mrs. Pepper opened the meeting with a
poem and a Thanksgiving devotional was
led by Mrs. Audrey Christie with Mrs. Belva
Fuss at the piano. The study was led by Rev.
Stanley McDonald and centered around a
film Partners. It lead everyone to realize
how embracing stewardship is. Miss Mary
Goodwin had arranged for the study.
Correspondence was received from the
Bluewater Rest Home for a birthday party
in November; a letter from Jo and Keith
Jamieson, missionaries in India; request
for donations from Alcohol and Drug Con-
cerns and Leprosy Mission; and letters of
thanks from Mission Services and Family
and Children's Services.
The Finance Committee had two recom-
mendations. They asked that consideration
be given to carpeting the gallery of the
church after consultation with the church
property committee and that any surplus
balance at the end of November be given to
the Over and Above fund. A request was
received for financial help for the Sunday
School supplies and a motion carried. The
Fall bale will be packed November lst.
Mrs. Pepper read another poem and
stated that the new 4-H club had started. It
was decided to purchase 100 calendars if
available, to sell among the congregation.
Courtesy remarks were given by Mrs.
Audrey Christie and Rev. McDonald gave
the benediction.
Rebekah installation
Mrs. Margaret Consitt Noble Grand of
Amber Rebekah Lodge presided for the in-
stallation of the officers on Oct. 5. She was
assistet by Vice Grand Mrs. Margaret Up -
shall when Mrs. Marion Rose and her in-
stalling staff of Edelweiss Lodge Seaforth
installed the incoming officers, of District
No. 23 of Huron were present.
Mrs. Rose U.D.P. was introduced by P.G.
Bertha MacGregor and received by Noble
Grand Mrs. Consitt and presented with a
corsage. Mrs. Olive Varley read the com-
mission, Mrs. Rose and staff Marshall Mrs.
Rachel Rheil; Pianist Mrs. Edith Dunlop,
Soloist Mrs. Ruth Campbell; Secretary Mrs.
Irene Smith; Treasurer and Financial
Secretary Mrs. Margaret Sharpe; Chaplain
Mrs. Ethel Boyce; Outside Guardian Mrs.
Mildred Kerr; Inside Guardian Mrs.
Margaret Carter; Vice Grand Mrs. Ruth
Chapple.
Mrs. Dorothy Corbett,gave the Financial
statement and Mrs. Ruby Bell reported for
the finances and Mrs. Margaret Upshall
reported for the visiting committee.
Mrs. Rose D.D.P. gave an outstanding ad-
dress on Promoting Happiness. Mrs. Mag-
gie Campbellexpressed courtesy remarks.
All members are invited to a banquet at
Goderich on November 1st when the Presi-
dent of the Rebekah Assembly will make
her official visit.

No. 8 in the IOOF Lodge, Hensall, on Friday
evening for the general meeting, under the
direction of President Alex McBeath, Past

Starting October llth, ten schools from
the Public and Separate School Boards in
Huron County will be reading to raise funds
for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The READ-a-thon program in Huron
County will involve 1264 students who hope
to raise $3,600. The 1982 program involved
five of these ten schools. These schools
registered 227 students who read a total of
1388 books raising $1,102.25.
Mary Vezeau, regional READ-a-thon
coordinator said, "If everyone in the Huron
area sponsored one child in their
neighbourhood they would be helping to
motivate that child to read while raising
funds for the crippling disease of young
adults."
Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the cen-
tral nervous system which may be
characterized by disturbances of vision,
muscle control, balance and speech. MS
usually affects young adults between the
ages of 20 to 40. As yet, there is no known
cause or cure.
All funds raised will be used for research.

ing meeting wilt be held in Monkton on April
6, 1984 with Mr. John Moffatt Chairman and
Mr. Bill Taylor Secretary.
Mrs. Britten then spoke of some of the
events coming up, that had been mentioned
at the General meeting on Monday evening.

For the Study Mrs. Britton chose three ar-
ticles from the Mandate magazine and one
from the Church Observer.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Sadie Hoy,
Mrs. Shirley Luther, and Mrs. Elva Forrest.
Unit 3 Hold Thanksgiving Meeting
Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell presided for the
meeting of Unit Three of Hensall UCW on
Oct. 4. Margaret had the worship on
Thankfulness and Mrs Rrintnell gave a
poem. Fifteen members answered the Roll
Call by "something to be thankful for". Miss
Mary Kinsman read a poem for the pro-
gram. Mrs. Dorothy Parker read from the
mandate on our missionary from Korea.
Mrs. Pearl Taylor assisted Mrs. Brintnell,
on the study Jesus The Life of the World.
Hostesses were Mrs. Beatrice Munn and
Vera Ross.
United News
Hensall United Church congregation were
reminded on Sunday morning of the
thankfulness for harvest through the
decorations of the Sanctuary. Unit One of
the United Church Women were in charge of
preparing the Sanctuary for Thanksgiving
through displays of vegetables and fruit on
the windows and front of the church.
The flowers on the Memorial Stand were
placed in memory of Mr. Wilfred Mack by
his wife, and family, Mr. and Mrs. John
McAllister and family of Hensall. Other
flowers were placed in honor of the mar-
riage of Ruth Shepherd to Steward Wise in
the church on Saturday.
Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of
Man's Thanks and God's Grace. The Junior
choir added much to the Thanksgiving Ser-
vice through their anthems and songs. A trio
of Mindy and Angela Bell and Robert
Gackstetter sang a children's Thanksgiving
hymn. Joyce Pepper was the pianist for the
choir and Mr. McDonald directed them.
Douglas Klopp was the organist for the
service and John Rowcliffe greeted the con-
gregation. Tim Mann, Ray Jacobe, Steve
Corbett and Ron Riley were the ushers.
The fall session of Bible Study began on
Tuesday morning at the United Church with
an excellent attendance. The subject
covered for this unit is The Beatitudes. The
group meets every Tuesday morning at 10
a.rn.
Mr. McDonald, assisted by Elders
Dorothy Parker and Dorothy Brintnell, held
a communion service at the Blue Water
Rest Home on Thursday morning. There are
quite a number from the United Church
residence of the home and regular commu-
nion services have been planned for them
along with their friends.
UCW meet
The Thanksgiving meeting of Unit 4 of the
UCW was held on Oct. 6, with Mrs. Nan Brit-
ton opening the meeting with a poem. The
devotional given by Mrs. Vera Lemmon and
her topic was on Forgiveness.
People Report
Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Chipchase of London
have taken up residence in the Northcrest
Seniors Apartments on Queen Street. We
welcome them to our village.
Mrs. Grace Farmer, Mrs. Lulu Love and
Mrs. Cyrl Cornish of Kincardine visited with
friends here last week.
Mrs. Blanche Chapman of London was a
Thanksgiving visitor with her sister and
brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mock have returned
home after a pleasant holiday to the British
Isles and other places of interest.
Mr. Charles Mickle of Hamilton spent the
holiday weekend visiting with his mother
Mrs. Laird Mickle.
A farewell dinner was held at the Bayview
Restaurant on Oct. 6 in honor of Eric
Luther, who has been Manager of the Bank
of Montreal, Hensall for the past 16 years.
He is now moving to the Exeter Branch. He
was presented with a gift by Mr. D. A.
McGlinchley.
Several of the Senior Citizens of the Three
Links, Hensall attended the Fall Rally held
at Seaforth on Wednesday.
Mrs. Alice Ferg visited over the holiday
with her sister and brother-in-law Mr. and
Mrs. George Coulter in Listowel.
Mrs. Elizabeth Alexander of Exeter has
taken up residence in the "Northcrest
Seniors Apartments.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett attended the
wedding of the latter's nephew, Mr. Brock
Adams to Miss Diane Rio of London on
Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don
Adams at Dashwood followed by a dinner

Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted
Thanksgiving services in Carmel

Presbyterian Church on Sunday his sermon
being on "The Spirit of Thankfulness".
Mrs. Dorothy Taylor presided at the organ
for the service of song. The sanctuary was
most beautifully decorated for the service of
Thanksgiving. The Huron Presbyterial of
the WMS held their Fall Rally, in Knox
Church, Belgrave on Oct. 12.

The WMS of Carmel Presbyterian Church
met on Oct. 3 for the Thank -Offering_
meeting. Mrs. Gloria Mousseau had the
worship and Mrs. Jean Snell read the Scrip-
ture.
Mrs. Eric Luther was the guest speaker
and she spoke on Praise and Thanksgiving
stating "Christianity is Jesus in Action in
our Lives".
The President Mrs. Dorothy Taylor
presided for the ladies' meeting which
followed and opened the meeting with a
poem. Mrs. Florence Hyde give the finan-
cial report and plans were discussed for the
Bazaar to be held November 5 at 2 pend. note
the change of time.
