CLINTON - Following her welcome to
members at the October 3 meeting of the
Clinton Hospital auxiliary, president Esther
Wright outlined the recent fall conference
held at Seaforth.
Money raising efforts was a major topic,
and the Clinton auxiliary was pleased to
learn that their annual penny sale, held for
the 29th year, raised more money than any
other.
Mrs. Wright also outlined the remarks of
the guest speaker, Judith Anne Fisher, who
spoke about Cheshire Homes of London for
the physically disabled. Some live in the
Cherry Hill complex, others in various
homes. Support is provided as needed, some
on a 24 -hours basis. These homes provide a
measure of independence for the physically
disabled. They are named for the founder
Leonard Cheshire.
First vice-president, Joyce Chilton,
reported that she had attended the Com-
mencement exercises at CHSS where she
presented the Ruby Haddy Memorial
awards to winners Ann Deichert and Bar-
bara Young.
Geriatrics and Hairdressing convenor,
Dawna Westlake, reported that over the
summer 79 sets and perms had been done
for hospital patients, with the help of
numerous volunteers. Four birthday parties
had been enjoyed by the chronic patients, as
well as two van rides, one in June and one in
Aug ust.
Mrs. Westlake showed Christmas tree or-
naments made from beads which the
chronic patients are making. Volunteers are
needed to help with this project. Any one
wishing to help can contact Mrs. Westlake
at 565-2462. Volunteers are also needed to
help patients to sew knitted squares
together to make lap robes.
President Esther Wright reported that the
quiet room had been completed. A Bible has
been presented by the Radiant Life Centre.
Mrs. Wright said that the room has been us-
ed extensively by visitors, patients, and by
doctors for consultation with relatives.
Iris Montgomery is holding a work
meeting at her home, 36 Princess East, at
1:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. Everyone is welcome -
she hopes for a good attendance. If any
ladies who can sew or knit are free on that
date, you are very welcome.

round
Marilyn Fraser has offered to take a book
cart with paper -back books for sale around
the hospital. This will be a further patient
service done with the aid of volunteers.
Lina Cochrane TV convenor reported that
patients have enjoyed their personal televi-
sions over the summer. Many patients who
had spent time in other hospitals remarked
on the bargain price of personal TVs at the
Clinton hospital - $2 per day. The Clinton TV
committee does not aim to make a lot of
money from this program - just enough to
pay rental to Sterisystems.
It is considered a service to patients.
Volunteers take over the TV service for a
week at a time. The office staff in admitting
does a splendid job for the TV committee -
many thanks.
The hospital auxiliary has been a strong
supporter of the Meals On Wheels program
in Clinton. The meals are prepared at the
hospital and delivered by volunteer drivers.
Driver co-ordinator, Kathleen Elliott, has
held this position for several years, and
would like to find a replacement. .Any one
who would be willing to take over this
necessary work can contact Kathleen Elliott
at 482-7818.
