Beavers march to Christian Reformed. Church
An impressive swtrn-up
ceremony was held on Sept.
22 at the joint meeting of the
Blyth Beavers and Cubs for
Michael Schneider, Daniel
Scott, Chris Heard and
Patrick Hallahan.
The Beavers met in the
Blyth Legion Hall and mar-
ched to the Christian
Reformed Church where
Rainbow led the Beavers in
their opening ceremony. The
swim -up Beavers were call-
ed forward and stood in front
of their leaders while Bub-
bles led them a Beaver
Farewell and wished them
well in the Cub Pack.
Hawkeye escorted the
Beavers down the river
banks to the edge of the Cub
pack to their parents where
the lights were dimmed and
the parents removed the
Beaver's uniforms and put
on the Cub's uniform. Akela
welcomed the boys as new
Churns into the Cub Pack.
Merle Thomas of Clinton, the
A.C.C. for Cubs, presented
each new Churn with their
white neckerchief and ex-
plained the meaning of it.
The new Chums were then
met by their sixer and ac-
cepted
scepted into the Wolf Cub
Pack with a grand howl.
Rusty and Merle led the
new Chums, Beavers, Cubs
and parents in action songs.
Rusty led the Beavers in
their closing.
The first Blyth Beavers
would like to welcome
Sharon Glousher of Auburn
as a new leader. They will be
picking a Beaver name for
her at the next meeting.
The Beavers held a very
successful bake and craft
table at the Blyth
Threshermen's Reunion.
They would like to thank all
the parents for their support
of this project.
The Beavers cleaned ap-
ples during the morning and
the Cubs were successful in
selling all their apples in the
afternoon. Thanks goes out
to the public for supporting
the Boy Scouts of Canada
during their annual Apple
Drive.
4-H'rs get into fitness kick
The first 4-H meeting of

Mary Ann then continued by
telling us about our special

We decided on the color
purple for our book covers
but have not yet decided on a
club name. Mary Ann in-
formed us that during this
project one of our members
will get her hair cut, we will
be doing exercises, getting a
manicure and getting a
demonstration on make-up.
The 2nd meeting of Blyth

Howsons. There were 11
members present. The three
new members were Annette
Lucas, Bobbi -Jo Marks and
Kendra Youngblut.
Elaine opened the meeting
by saying the 4-H pledge. We
all answered the roll call
"Complete this statement as
it applies to you. Fitness
is...." We then did the work
in the meeting two manual
and took up the horse ac-
tivities of meeting I.
We continued by taking a
vote on a club name. The
final decision was "Beastly
Beauties" thought up by
Kendra.
Catherine Battye came
and we did some various
types of exercises. We then
all thanked Catherine for
giving up her time and com-
ing to show us these exer-
cises.
The next meeting will be
on Sept. 28 7 p.m. at Mary
Anns. It will either be hair
care or make-up.

Most of the teams will be in
the Western Ontario Athletic
Association (WOAA) and the
bantam team may be en-
tered into the Goderich
house league.
Registration in figure
skating and power skating
was down. Seventy-four
skaters, two-thirds of last
year's number, will be in-
volved in junior, in-
termediate, power and
senior skating.
Barb Howson said that the
decrease in registration in
the skating could be at-
tributed to rising costs for
larger families.
Mrs. Howson explained
that it's getting too ex-
pensive for larger families to
put their children into both
figure, power skating and
minor hockey.
Girl's Ringette only had
nine players register.
Initially, Mrs. MacDonald
had hoped to form two teams
that would play in the
WOAA. Only three more
players are needed to form
one team. All girls between
the ages of eight and 18 are
welcomed to register.
Interested players can

at 523-9404 after 5 p.m.
