Ross Radford and grand- daughter Amber Soper of Port Colborne spent Satur- day night with her aunt Dora Shobbrook and attended the Blyth Threshermen's Reu- nion. Men bowlers keep in mind the Londesboro men's bowl- ing league starts on Sept. 15. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McEw- ing spent the holiday weekend at Bracebridge, Muskoka. Burns UCW hear of Alma seminar The September meeting of the Burns UCW was held Sept. 7 at the home of Hazel Reid with 14 members and three visitors present. Special guest speaker was Jane Swan. Jane gave an in- teresting talk or her three days at Alma College, the theme was "Being fully me." On behalf of the UCW, Hazel thanked Jane and presented her with a gift. Amelia Rice conducted the business and the treasurer's report was given by Margaret Taylor. Thank you cards were received from Gavin Leiper and Ed and Betty Salverda. Amelia Rice read cor- respondence and an invita- tion was received to the Huron -Perth Presbyterial Rally at Goshen United Church on October 3. There will be no UCW meeting next month. We deliver Phone 523-9332 By Eleanor Bradnock The Auburn Trustee Board met last Saturday evening for their monthly meeting with the chairman Warner Andrews in charge. • The minutes were read by the village clerk, Mrs. Ross Dobie. Correspondence was read and discussions took place regarding a budget for the spending of town monies for repairs to streets and roads, etc. It was announced that six tree stumps have been removed. Donald Youngblut of London had brought an old minute book of the Auburn Trustee Board starting on January, 1913 to trustee Eleanor Bradnock and this was on display. It had been found in books that had belonged to tke late Ralph Munro at the time of his sale a few weeks ago. The clerk of the village at that time was John Phillips and he received $5 per annum for his salary. John McKnight was secretary and the trustees were G. Beadle and G. Youngblut. John Phillips was hired to ring the bell for 1913 at the salary of $8 every day. Torrance Tabb was taken by ambulance on Sunday to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and is a patient there. Mr. and Mrs. J.A. McIntosh and Mr. and Mrs. C. Goffin of Londoh visited last weekend with Mrs. Frances Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Moas of Detroit visited last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Marilyn. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Asquith of Streetsville visited one day last week trustees with Mrs. Tom Johnston and Laura Phillips. Winner of the Auburn and District Lions Club lottery last week was Kenneth McDougall. The week before, the winner was John Hallam. Many from Auburn at- tended the threshermen's reunion at Blyth last weekend. Warner Andrews had his steam engine in the parade. Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baechler celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary when members of their family gathered at their home and presented them with many gifts to mark the occasion. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Foran and Joey Holmes of Blyth, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Dougherty, and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hakkers and Jeffrey, all of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. Mansueto Renon, Tracy, Robert and Cathy of R.R. 5 Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. om Vanderburg, Steven a risten of Guelph and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Baechler, Sharon and Rickey of Blyth. Other relatives and friends who called were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cook of Clinton, Mrs. Winnifred Girvin of Dungannon and Mrs. Margaret Harkness of Bervie. Lions Club Auburn and District Lions Club held their first fall meeting in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall with the president Lion Marinus Bakker in charge. District Governor Stewart MacKinnon of Wiarton was present for his official visit. He spoke on the theme, "Join Hands in Service". He presented Past President Jim Schneider with a past president nplaque, 13-100 percent attendance awards and nine five year pins. The club is trying to complete its fence project around the ball diamond and the pad. It plans on holding a bingo night on October 7 and the members are hosting an Auburn Dart Club Tour- nament on October 8 in the Auburn Hall. 4-p News The first meeting of the Auburn 4-H Club for the fall project, "Looking Great - Feeling Great" was held recently. The leaders are Jackie Collins and Lynn Chamney. The election of officers took place. The first meeting was the introduction into the project and was held at the home of Jackie Collins. The next meeting will be held at the home of Lyn Chamney on September 19. There are 10 members registered for the club. UCW Unit Two of Knox United Church Women held its meeting in the Sunday School room of the church last Tuesday evening. The members were divided into groups and each group visited a shut-in in the village for a short period, then all assembled in the church. The committee in charge was Mrs. Ernest Durnin, Mrs. John Durnin and Mrs. Tom Lawlor. Mrs. Ernest Durnin opened the meeting Mrs. Elliott Lapp, delegate to the Alma College summer course, gave a very in- teresting and informative r account of the days spent there. She was thanked by Mrs. Ernest Durnin. The offering was received by Mrs. John Durnin and Mrs. Tom Lawlor The leader, Mrs. Donald Haines, presided for the business meeting. The minutes of the June meeting were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Oliver Anderson. The correspon- dence was also read. It in- cluded a thank you note from the children's hospital in London for quilts sent to them in April. Mrs. Tom Lawlor gave the card report and read the thank you notes she had received. Mrs. Stewart Ball gave the treasurer's report Arrangements were made to write letters to the shut-ins and also for the church cleaning for September. Plans were also made for the general meeting in Sep- tember. It was announced that the fall rally will be held in Goderich on October 5. Hall Board Meets Reeve Torn Cunningham presided for the Auburn Community Memorial Hall Board meeting held last Thursday evening in the hall. The minutes were accepted as read by Mrs. George Collins on motion of Jim Schneider and Warner Andrews. Business was discussed and arrangements are going to be made with the Leo club members for painting and snow removal this winter. Bills were discussed and after discussion, it was decided to get form con- tracts for those renting the hall and this will make it -PAGE 7 ets easier for the secretary and those renting for an event. All toured the recently renovated kitchen and renting chairs was discussed.
