On jrio Street United
Church was full last Sunday,
as the church held the first of
three Sunday services in
September marking the
100th anniversary of the
founding of the church.
A canvassing campaign to
raise $90,000 towards the
$180,000 replacement of the
Clinton arena floor will be
launched next week in town.
Jo -Anne Palmer, 22,
formerly of Clinton, was
crowned Fairest of the Fair
September 7 at the Western
Fair in London.

At the regular session of
Bayfield Council last
Wednesday evening, council
discussed at length the dos-
ing of the dump. The Reeve
reported on his contact with
the officers of the
Holmesville Site and found
the Village could be accom-
modated there. He will be in-
vited to their next meeting
for further discussion.
Because of an un-
precedented building boom,
Clinton Council decided last
Monday night to ask the
Ministry of Transportation
and Communications to up-
date the population figures
on the signs on the highways
leading into town.

The Old Clifford Lobb
Store is a complete iness, as
of now, out probably it will
look better soon ... That is
the site for the addition to
Stedman's store ... big steel
beams are at the front door
ready to install ... Trouble is,
things will just get exciting,
and they'll go and put up a
wooden front to the building,
and we'll not be able to
watch them work ... Should
be a law that construction
should all be graced with
large enough peek -through
windows that the sidewalk
superintending ... Of course
people in Clinton should have
had their fill of that by now,
"^ uiridi rtfil; natural gas mains
going in ...

The Clinton Kiltie Band
gave an open-air concert
Sunday evening when many
waited after the church ser-
vices or came into town to
hear it. Leader Morgan
Agnew was m charge and the
program as announced was
carried out. The trumpet
solos of Miss Leona Rapson,
a 12 year old girl, were much
enjoyed.
Clinton's aviation day, Fri-
day last, was one of the hot-
test days this summer, a
regular blisterer and in-
cidentally, Capt. Gillies said
it was one of the worst flying
days in his experience, a
gusty wind blowing and what
aviators describe as "air
pockets" making the voyag-
ing a bit rough.

Captain McTaggart, who
recently resigned the posi-
tion of secretary -treasurer
of the Collegiate Institute
Board, performed the duties
thereof in a most satisfac-
tory manner for six years
without pay. The Board has
now decided to add a salary
of $50 per annum and is
advertising for applicants.
From nothing to half $100 is
quite a jump.

A wild looking individual,
yelling and hurrahing was
marching through the fields
one evening last week. He
claimed to have had an en-
counter with the Chief of
Clinton, in which the latter
was knocked down three
times. Chief Paisley did give
"Tom" a chase while in Clin-
ton, but he made good his
escape. "Tom" is wanted on
very important business,
and he may yet have to toe
the mark - before the legal
authorities.
The Tug D.D. Porter with
three barges sought the
shelter of the harbor on Fri-
day. On Saturday she left for
a barge that had broken
away from the tow, which
barge she brought into har=
bot on Sunday evening. The
Tug and four barges left dur-
ing the night for the river.
