Officials of the Bayfield
Agricultural Society worst
fears weren't realized over
the weekend at the 122nd
Bayfield Fall Fair.
Secretary Audrey Graham
reported that about -1,500
persons visited the spread -
out fair, about the same as
last year, and the number of
exhibitors was up in some
classes.
Bayfield will definitely be
getting a new arena and con-
struction will begin next
week.

For the students in Clinton
and area, going back to
school Tuesday seemed a lit-
tle harder this year as an
unusual heat wave continued
to grip the area for the tenth
straight day.
Work is nearly completed
on the $100,000 improvement
program undertaken thi:
summer by the Tuckersmitl
Municipal Telephon(
system.
Plans have been corn
pleted for the 46th Annua
Huron Plowmans Associa
tion plowing match.

The new bathhouse at th
Clinton swimming pool is
ready for its roof. There is no
money left to pay for labor to
put the roof on. Result: a call
for volunteer labor.

made clothes endanger

The Clinton Collegiate
opened on Tuesday with all
the staff on hand. The staff
this term consists of Prin-
cipal E.A. Fines, Mr. J.C.
Cooper, Misses Depew, Kit-
chen, Brydone and
Plumsteel, the latter being a
new member.
We mere informed the
other day that it is now possi-
ble to have a heating and
cooling system in every
home which will
automatically keep the
temperature at the same
level winter or summer.

A new flag pole was
hoisted on the Clinton town
hall on Friday last to replace
the one broken in a gale
some time ago. The pole is 27
feet long and its cap is rather
over 80 feet from mother
earth. The work of placing
the pole in its socket was not
just so easy as appeared
from the street below for it
was quite a height and the
men hadn't much room to
stand.
It is understood that Mon-
day, the 19th of October, is
likely to be selected as
Thanksgiving Day. This is a
departure from the Firm.-
honored
im ..honored Thursday, but the
change will be appreciated.

Councillor Doan made a
good suggestion at the Clin-
ton Council Board in
reference to the extension of
covered drain Westward
from the portion in front of
Leslie's brick shop.
On Saturday we were
shown a sample of spring
wheat, grown on the farm of
Mr. Scott, Huron Road,
about seven miles from Clin-
ton. The stalks measure 6
feet 4 inches and the heads
are well filled with nice
plump grain.
Attention was called
through our columns a few
weeks ago to the loss of a
lady's grey ulster. One week
elapsed after the first notice
and the missing wrap did not
turn up. Its second notice,
however, brought it to the
loser, just in time to be
useful for fall wear.
