ASSORTED YYllfll[t HOSTESS POTATO CHIPS 1.19. By Bertha MacGregor Well, Comrades, the sum- mer is just about over and September is rolling around. The summer saw some Ho - sail Comrades at Luckni w for their 125th Anniversary. The Legion there held a Drumhead service, which was well organized. The Zone held a seminar in the Hensall Branch in July, and held'one at Branch level in A Steep September 14 will be the first general meeting for this year, and because Hensall is having a Centennial in 1984, the Legion is also going to be very busy. It is hoped all Comrades will be out and support the event. On August 19 Hensall's last WWI Veteran, Harry Horton died. Harry was a Charter and Life Member of this Branch, he was also a member of the 18th Battalion of the Association of Cyclists Brigade. He served with distiction at the Battle of Virny Ridge. He was an ar- dent and faithful member of the Royal Canadian Legion and during the last number ily tel'' 4, i.,te i of years recited, with such keen memory In Flanders Fields at the Remembrance Day Services. Harry will be sadly missed by Branch 468 Hensall. They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. A most enjoyable after- noon was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al Corbett when Mrs. Steven Corbett and Mrs. Al Corbett were hostesses for a bridal shower in honor of Miss Sheila Riley, whose marriage is to be on September 10 to Jeff Corbett in the Hensel! United Chur- ch. Mrs. Hugh Maorenz of Dashwood read an address to the bride -elect and many beautiful and various gifts were presented by Misses Catharine Corbett and Sally Chaffe. Mrs. Ross Riley and Mrs. Ross Corbett assisted the bride -elect with the gifts. The guest of honor was adorned with apparel ar- ranged with the bows from the giftkand picture taking was in or. er. Mrs. Jack Corbett gave a humorous reading and con- tests were directed by Mrs. Steven Corbett. The guest of honor invited everyone to her home on September 4 when her mother, Mrs. Riley will host friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mac- Donald and family have taken up residence on the farm home they purchased on Highway 4 west. Miss Catharine Corbett spent a few days last week holidaying with her grand- parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett. Mrs. Alice Ferg returned home following a visit with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eckel in Zurich. Mrs. Evelyn Flynn return- ed home after spending a week's vacation at her sum- mer camp at Silver Lake. Mrs. Ruth Taylor of Clin- ton and Mrs. Cora Mac- Farlane of Calling Lake, Alberta visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Corbett. Mrs. MacFarlane also visited other family members and attended the wedding of her niece Jackie Taylor to Bob Hart in the Brucefield Church on August 27. The members of Amber Rebekah Lodge will resume their fall meetings on September 7 at 8 p.m. follow- ed by a Pot Luck luncheon. +++ Rev. Kenneth Knight con- ducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Fri- day evening. Mr. Doug Klopp of Zurich presided at the organ for the service of song. September 2 will be the last evening service. September 11 a Congrega- tional service and picnic will be held at Camp Kintail. Stan McDonald returned to the pulpit on Sun- day morning at the Hensall United Church following' his summer vacation. Marlen Nagtegaal was the organist and the Men's Quartette consisting of Ron Mock, Don McCaffrey, Bill and Tom Bailey sang. Steven Corbett greeted the con- gregation and JoAnne and Marilyn Pepper were the ushers for the service. Hazel Corbett was in charge of the Baby and Toddler care. It was announced that Sun- day School would re -open on September 11. Bob and Marlene Bell held a barbecue and shower on August 25, honoring their nephew Doug Bell and his fiancee Brenda Kemp. Doug is the son of Mildred and Robert Ulch. Also attending were aunts, uncles, and a grandmother of Doug. Emmerson and Mable Kyle have returned home from a wonderful trip through Canada and The United States. Emmerson drove and they covered 7,000 kilometres, travelling through Michigan, Washington, Penticton, B.C., then on to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Virden Manitoba, and then home to Kippen. Kippen United Church•will resume its normal services again on September 4 at 10 a.m. Al and Margaret Hoggarth, Greg, Paul and Janet attended the Greene family picnic at Paul Bunyan campgrounds in Bayfield. If the young people in the Kippen area would like to contact me about their plans for the fall, whether it be college, ,university, or going out into the work force, I'm sure the readers would be interested in hearing about it. A pot luck family shower was held at Houston Heights recently in honor of Jeff McKay and his fiancee Tena De Koker.
