The base is em- phasized, the beat is often funky.,.irresistible. It begins with Rhythm of the Heat and Gabriel's great march through the audience to the stage beating a drum. You think that's unusual? Take a look at the back of the album. Gabriel is lying board stiff on the hands of the audience! 1 The music doesn't lag in intensity. Only the song No Self Control lacks potency. However, his most popular single to date, Shock the Monkey, picks things up again. Then, surprise! Just when it looks like things are going to slow down again (the next song is billed "Humdrum"), we get one of the best songs on this two - record set. There is a lot on tins album for Gabriel fans. First, there is the song Go Swimming, not on his four studio Righteous Brothers at Fair The Righteous Brothers, responsible for some of the finest music to emerge from the 60s, will step into the grandstand spotlight at Western Fair on Wednesday, September 14. The stage "brothers", Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, are magic together. Hatfield provides the crystaline highs and Medley the resonant lows. AUG. 25 a blend of harmony that re- mains unsurpassed. The Righteous Brothers came -together by chance. An ad lib duet at a party in the early 60s began a meteoric climb through the pop charts. Their renditions of "Ebb Tide", "Soul and In- spiration", "Unchained Melody" - and of course their colossal hit "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", dominated rock 'n' roll throughout the decade. The duo broke up in 1968, but were reunited in 1982 in celebration of that first time they sang together 20 years ago. In concert, they present their audiences with "feel - good" music and bountiful bits of comic banter, recap- turing the magic again. Their fans prove that they have never lost "that loving feeling" for the Righteous Brothers. Shows at 7 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14 are free to fairgoers. awell ew . albums. Next is the ever pre- sent r o -sent fact that this is a live album. Unlike many live LP's, all the song introduc- tions (the spoken part where we are told what song is be- ing played) are included. On these little speeches, Gabriel really has something to say "Groups of people make themselves strong by ex- cluding other people. This is for the people who are left out." He did Not One of Us. Another bonus is the fact that Gabriel's music is eerier live than on studio albums (Intruder sent chills up, down and up my spine). Unimpressed? Consider that the record is put out by the David Geffen Company (responsible for the movie Risky Business), not to mention Gabriel's back-up band: David Rhodes, courtesy of London records; Jerry Marotta, Larry Fast and Tony Levin of King Crimson fame. The album even has the aura of fun. On one of the "inner bags" was this message: Although this album was compiled from four concerts in the mid -west of the United States, some additional recording took place not a thousand miles away from the home of the artiste. The generic term of this process is "cheating". Care has been taken to keep the essence of the gigs intact, including "human imperfection." - The Producers (Peter Gabriel and Peter Walsh). I love it!
