The CHSS cheerleaders recently came away from a cheerleader camp in Ottawa with major awards, in- cluding the squad cham- pionship, the split racket, and individual award and four ribbons. The CHSS team was competing with 47 other schools and 125 girls. Clanton cheerleaders are Brenda Priestap, Becky McCabe, Lori Wise, Karen Bolger, Lorie Alexander, Joanne Middleton, Carolyn Wood and Judy Torrance. 10 years ages August 16, 1973 Clinton is looking into the feasibility of purchasing the former Shell service station on Huron Street as a new fire hall. The suggestion to make the $25,000 purchase came during discussion on the new fire agreement the town is hammering out with Hullett, Stanley, Tuckersmith and Goderich Townships. The Clinton Juveniles won the WOAA Championship last Sunday afternoon as they defeated Seaforth two straight games. Clinton's new $750,000 sewage treatment plant is nearing completion and is scheduled to be used in November. 25 years ago August 14, 1958 Work on the new section of the Clinton Public School is progessing favorably. Cale Doucette, builder, reports that the old kindergarten room is going to be ready for occupancy by a senior class by September 2. Natural gas in Clinton by September 15 is the probable date for this new service. Digging is going forward at road crossings and railway crossings from Stratford to Goderich and when it is completed the pipes will be laid. 50 years ago August 17, 1933 The beautiful rain which came on Monday night was welcomed by all, it being the first rain of any account for the past three months. Showers have gone all around but none fell in Londesboro, and this one was very welcome. About 40 young people from Varna held a corn and weiner roast on the beach at Bayfield on Friday evening. 75 years ago August 13, 1908 Mr. D. Cantelon shipped 1,714 baskets of apples on Saturday and this week he send$ two carloads, one of barreled stock and the other in baskets. They were of the Duchess variety and were all sent to Manitoba points. John Middleton has a 20 acre field of corn which demonstrates beyond any doubt whatever that corn can be successfully grown in Goderich Township. The stalks measure 12 feet and there are none shorter but some longer. They are plump and juicy in proportion to their height.
