The Clanton office of the
Huron County Health Unit
was a very busy place last
week, as hundreds of people
lined up to get their polio
booster shots after the
disease was discovered in
Oxford County.
The CHSS cheerleaders
recently came away from a
cheerleader camp in Ottawa
with major awards, in-
cluding the squad cham-
pionship, the split racket,
and individual award and
four ribbons. The CHSS team
was competing with 47 other
schools and 125 girls. Clanton
cheerleaders are Brenda
Priestap, Becky McCabe,
Lori Wise, Karen Bolger,
Lorie Alexander, Joanne
Middleton, Carolyn Wood
and Judy Torrance.

Clinton is looking into the
feasibility of purchasing the
former Shell service station
on Huron Street as a new fire
hall.
The suggestion to make
the $25,000 purchase came
during discussion on the new
fire agreement the town is
hammering out with Hullett,
Stanley, Tuckersmith and
Goderich Townships.
The Clinton Juveniles won
the WOAA Championship
last Sunday afternoon as
they defeated Seaforth two
straight games.
Clinton's new $750,000
sewage treatment plant is
nearing completion and is
scheduled to be used in
November.

Work on the new section of
the Clinton Public School is
progessing favorably. Cale
Doucette, builder, reports
that the old kindergarten
room is going to be ready for
occupancy by a senior class
by September 2.
Natural gas in Clinton by
September 15 is the probable
date for this new service.
Digging is going forward at
road crossings and railway
crossings from Stratford to
Goderich and when it is
completed the pipes will be
laid.

The beautiful rain which
came on Monday night was
welcomed by all, it being the
first rain of any account for
the past three months.
Showers have gone all
around but none fell in
Londesboro, and this one
was very welcome.
About 40 young people
from Varna held a corn and
weiner roast on the beach at
Bayfield on Friday evening.

Mr. D. Cantelon shipped
1,714 baskets of apples on
Saturday and this week he
send$ two carloads, one of
barreled stock and the other
in baskets. They were of the
Duchess variety and were all
sent to Manitoba points.
John Middleton has a 20
acre field of corn which
demonstrates beyond any
doubt whatever that corn
can be successfully grown in
Goderich Township. The
stalks measure 12 feet and
there are none shorter but
some longer. They are
plump and juicy in
proportion to their height.
There will be no lack of
fodder in the barns of the
Squire this coming winter.

Three Holmesville natives
were masquerading at
Colborne Township's
Maitland flats in full view on
the houses one evening last
week, in genuine African
style - stark naked. They talk
about our woods being in-
fested with wild animals, but
the sight of our friends in this
style was so unusual that we
did not know whether to liken
them to apes, or baboons or
animals with less covering.
Theynext time they
Y
promenade we well get a
photographer and have them
sketched by the in-
stantaneous process so that
others may enjoy the benefit
of their audacity.

Wash pearl jewelry often
with amild soap solution to
remove harmful chemical
deposits from perfumes and
hair sprays. Oils from the
skin on the other hand, are
not harmful, but heighten the
lustre of pearls.
