Clinton News-Record, 1983-07-20, Page 21The Music c c • t..I ®x rn versatile 1 rouble with Normal l y Janet Tench Funky. Freaky. And very real. The Trouble With Nor- mal is all of these. The sound is part jazz, part Jamaican, and, if there is any sound specifically applied to Canada, Canadian. On stage, Bruce Cockburn ik shy, but from his albums you can tell that although the man is quiet, he's got some very perceptive ideas. The title song points out that "normal", or what we ac- cept as normal, keeps expanding to accept worse and worse things. The song urges you to accept your surroun- dings. "Tropic Moon" is a song of war, but the beat makes it danceable. "Civilization and Its Discontents" is a fun - sounding song with meaning. An interesting note: The names of the cities where ruts wrote the songs are found at the bottom of each song on the lyrics sheet - which is in French and English. If you've been to a BC concert in the past two years, you'll want this album. With the exception of "Put Our Hearts Together", Bruce has been performing them since 1982. Some songs from this album are also done on "Rumors of Glory", jiis film for Pay TV. The music is not for a -party, but it's great when you're alone. Bruce was quoted in Music Express as saying, "Music has a unique cbpacity for the expression of those superverbal concepts, concepts that are often too much to express with words." Is this man with it, or not? Give him a nine out of ten, he and his music sound good. IASSIFIEm® 47. Many of the projects fund- ed will be multi-year pro- jects, Mr. Pope said. Special consideration will be given to projects which have sup- port from industry and private groups. A board consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the universities and other interested sectors will review project proposals and make recommendations for grants, the minister said. The new resource research program, with its emphasis on co-operation between government and the universities, is only part of the ministry's continuing commitment to support research in the resource area, Mr. Pope noted.
