Entitled "The Ontario Bicentennial Quilt Contest", the competition is open to novice and artisan alike. The province has selected 1;'9 as its Bicentennial, marking the anniversary of the first major influx of settlers. Individuals practicing the historic craft of quilting will be competing for prizes of $500 for first, $400 for second and $300 for third place in the contest sponsored by the Ontario Agricultural Museum at Milton. The province has invited her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II to attend the celebration. of Ontario's Bicentennial. If she is able to come, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food will present Her Majesty with the first place quilt and in- troduce the talented winner. ',Although the winners of the competition will be announced in early June 1984, the quilts will be on display at the museum until the end of August. All quilts must be received by the museum no later than May 1, 1984 and all interested participants should register by December 31, 1983. Mail order library New Geoscience Data File brings Mail Order Library to Busy Mining Personnel A new mail order library provided by the Ontario Geological Survey offers busy prospectors and the staff of mining and explora- tion companies access to geological information right in their offices. But the service won't mean tonnes of material for already overcrowded shelves. It consists of microfilmed geotechnical reports and associated in- dices. Natural Resources Minister Alan Pope says the new Geoscience Data File consists of: • technical reports which are composed of text and supporting map documenta- tion: • indices which illustrate the coverage of exploration activity. "The Ontario Geological Survey has already compil- ed, indexed and filmed some 2,600 files dealing with the Sault Ste. Marie resident geologist's area - about 10 per cent of the provincial total. And the Sudbury area will be completed next mon- th," Mr. Pope said. "The file means a standar- dized, provincewide reference system. lower pur- chase and handling costs, less storage space, and the ability to receive the reports and indices on a mail-order basis," he added. • All of the microfilmed files and their associated indices may be purchased from Micropublishing Services Canada Limited, 1361 Hun- tingwood Drive, Unit No. 8, Agincourt, Ontario, M1S 3J1. Telephone ( 416)292-0900. More information on the Geoscience Data File may be obtained from: The Resi- dent Geologist Office for your area or Robert C. Owen, Ontario Geological Survey, Room 819, 77 'Gren- ville Street, Toronto, On- tario, M5S 1B3. Telephone (416 )965.6139. Committee formed WINGHAM - Faced with what it sees as a need to improve its public relations before mounting a major fund raising drive, the Wingham and District Hospital Board has formed a new committee to try and get across to the community the message of what it is trying to accomplish. The committee, composed mainly of various com- munity leaders, began meeting last week. It is charged with helping to correct the impression that a $500,000 renovation program completed last year was little more than ad- ministrative window- dressing, which did little to improve patient services, and laying the groundwork to raise money for a mors ambitious building program later this year
