Construction has begun un
the first phase of a $600,000

Bayfield Boat yard Ltd. in
Vanastra.
Company president, Ted
Gozzard said on July 18 that
when the expansion is
completed within the next
couple off years, 25 new jobs
will be created.
A determined fire resulted
in $75,000 damage in

Hallett Township council
will request a nleeting with
Blyth council over changes
in cost sharing at the Blyth-
Hullett dump as proposed by
village council.
Hullett council at its July
meeting voted to have the
clerk approach Blyth council
and set up a meeting.
Blyth recently suggested
that cost sharing be adjusted
from the present 50-50 basis
to a 60-40 basis with Hullett
paying the larger share. The
recommendation was made
after the Blyth council had
asked dump superintendent
Len F:ooney to keep track of
quantities of garbage
coning from Blyth, Hullett
and Auburn, all of which use
the dump.

As was stated in the News -
Record last week, the first
well for the water -works
system was drilled to the
required depth of 350 feet
and last Thursday the test
began which continued for a
couple of days. The pump
used -three inch -did not
throw what was considered
an adequate amount of water
and `one and inch was sent
for. It arrived last night from
Petrolia and the second test
will begin this forenoon.
The Walkerton Telescope
remarks: Mr. David
Robertson was in Hanover
the other day, defending a
merchant of that place,
named Fred Deutschman,
who had been charged with
violating the early closing
bylaw. Mr. Miekle of Chesley
was there on behalf of the
prosecution, but Deut-
schman won the case. To our
way of thinking, an early
closing bylaw is a tyranny. If
allmerchants can agree to
close all well and good, but to
say that a merchant must
close up at a certain hour of
the day whether he wants to
or not, is as we have said, a
tyranny.

A public distribution of
prizes to the best scholars in
the Model School, took place
In the town hall, on Friday
evening last, the hall being
filled to its utmost capacity.
The prizes consisted of
splendid books, ranging in
value, according to the
standing of the scholar, and
the diplomas particularly
are likely to be treasured by
those who were successful in
getting them.
Goderich Township
council met at Holmesville
and passed bylaw 4
prohibiting all kinds of
cattle, horses, sheep, pigs
and geese from running at
large.
If the Kippen bridge
between the village and
station is not repaired before
long some serious accident
will be the result. The
culverts also at the corner
here are in a very dangerous
state and filthy state and
should be attended to at
once
