Vanastra Lions hold barbecue
Vanastra Lions
By Patrick Higgins
The Vanastra Rec Centre
Park was the location for the
annual Lions and Lioness
family barbecue held July
10. The barbecue was attend-
ed by about 85 Lions,
Lioness, and their children.
Games and swinuning were
planned for the children,
while the adults took part in
a baseball game. After all
that fun and good food, it's
safe to say everyone
thoroughly enjoyed
themselves.
The Vanastra Lions were
guests of the Seaforth Op-
timists on the evening of Ju-
ly 10 for a baseball game
held at the Seaforth Op-
timists Park. The Vanastra
Lions came up on top, winn-
ing the game 47-14.

This week the Nursery will
have fun talking about "The
Teddy Bear's Picnic", a
perfect summer topic. The
children will get to see what
a Teddy Bears Picnic is real-
ly like on July 15, when all
will go on a picnic. All teddy
bears are asked to attend.
On July 12, Angela Tyn-

wedding anniversary on July 3 with a party at their home.

Brucefield couple
celebrate 50 years
They met at a dance in
Brucefield, dated for two
years and were married at
her home in Colborne
Township.
That was in the 1930s, and

celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary with an
open house on July 3.
Along with friends and
neighbors, the Ross' six
children, and their spouses, -
16 grandchildren and two
great grandchildren joined
in the celebration. Their
children are Mrs. Marion
( George) Warner of
Goderich, Donald of
Goderich, Mrs. Betty Jean

Red Cross
history note
Only two products - whole
blood and plasma - were
available in 1947 when the
Canadian Red Cross began
its Blood Transfusion Ser-
vice. Today 90 per cent of
whole blood collected by the
Red Cross is processed into
more than 20 blood products,
each used to treat a specific
disease dr condition.
They have lost one son,
George.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross follow
their children's lives with
pride and love. The liv-
ingroom walls in the Ross
home display each of their
wedding photographs, along
with pictures of their happy
young grandchildren.
Mrs. Ross admitted that
she has some trouble keep-
ing all the birthdays
straight, but obviously she
doesn't forget. A small girl
approached the anniversary
couple and presented them
with a note. The girl was
their granddaughter and the
note was a handwritten
thank you message for a re-
cent birthday present.
While Mr. Ross has been in
poor health in recent years,
the couple enjoy a comfor-
table home in Brucefield. It
once belonged to Mr. Ross'
grandfather. They also enjoy
the company of a loving
family and good friends.

Pillow check for safety from
burning cigarettes
Smoldering cigarette
stubs have a habit of rolling
behind sofa and chair pillows
and cushions, hiding until
everyone is asleep. Then
they erupt into fast-moving
flames that put life in
danger. To break that bad
habit, check upholstered fur-
niture for still burning
cigarette stubs before retir-
ing, says the Ontario Safety
League, especially if you
have had guests.
