Hullett holds fa By flora Shobbrook Hullett Township's first annual family day was held July 9. Tweedsmuir Books were displayed by Helen Lawson, Tweedsmuir curator and committee Genevieve AIlin, June Fothergill and Margaret Taylor. Horseshoes and shuffleboard were played. Three soccer teams played and the win- ners were coached by Herb VanAmerfort. Four ball teams took part in a tournament, represen- ting each corner of the township. The tourney' was won by the Smith Corner coached by John Jewitt. At 5p.m. pork barbecue began when 375 attended. Following the barbecue, a talent show was held featur- ing Hullett residents past and present. Hullett Reeve Tom Cunningham was the M.C. He introduced the Snell family Singers, Rob and Rick Snell, Bette and Scott Jewitt, Barb, Lisa and Kelly Bosman. Audrey Sprung was a talented speaker and lively stepdancing was per- formed by Cheryl Bromley and The Kountry Kids, Stephanie Bush, Kelly Bosman, Shari, Nancy and Erin Lobb. John Jewitt played the bagpipes, Ronnie Greidanus played piano and his Uncle John was on the ac- cordion. An impromptu group consisting of Gladys Van Egmond on the piano, Rob Snell on the guitar and fiddlers Earl Nott and Mark Stackhouse presented modern and old tyme music. The program was greatly enjoyed by the large au- dience and ended with an- nouncement of the winner of the crest contest, Ron Vander Werf. Later, a street dance, organized and presented by John Lawson and assisted by Brad Lyon culminated the busy, successful Hullett Day. ily r . y Personals Congratulations to Jim Watt and Tammany Larsen who were .harried July 9th in Londesboro United Chur- ch. Mrs. Jean Kennedy, Stephen, Kathy, Amanda and Crystal returned home from spending 1'2 weeks with her sister Mr. and Mrs. Don Mitchum in Columbia, South Carolina. Mrs. Dora Shobbrook spent last week with her daughter Muriel and Ross Millson and family in Woodstock. 'Thelma Ellerby and Dorie Garrow returned home with her from spen- ding three weeks in Alberta and B.C. with Garrow rela- tions. Tom Allen and Drew were fishing the past week at Keel Island, Quebec. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Allen and family attended the Allen family picnic on Sun- day at McNaughton Park, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thomp- son returned home Sunday from two weeks vacation motoring to the East Coast, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Radford and Jennifer Laurie. Monday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns were daughter Betty, Mrs. Jerry Smith of Kincardine, Bar- bara, Mrs. Colin Paterson and Katie of London. Lloyd Longman of Strat- ford and Mildred Bryson of Ingersoll visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Longman and attended the Hullett Township Day and Barbecue. Clara Riley, Jean Caldwell and Dorothy Sot- tiaux enjoyed a bus trip on Sunday with Seaforth Hor- ticultural Society to Hamilton Rose Gardens. Colin Swan announced the congregational picnic on Ju- ly 17 at 11 a.m. at the home of Peter Hardy. There will be a potluck picnic lunch, bring your chairs, dishes and cutlery and swim suits. Flowers in the sanctuary were from the marriage of Jim Watt and Tammy Larsen on July 9. The men's choir, Elgin Penfound, Garnet Wright, Gordon Shobbrook, John Jewitt, Tom Duizer, Ken Scott, Bert Lyon, Jack Lee and Colin Swan, with Lisa Duizer organist sang a special an- them. 49th Shobbrook Reunion There were 60 at the an- nual Shobbrook reunion on July 10 for dinner at Con- servation Park, Clinton. President Bill Crawford welcomed all. Minutes of last year's reunion were read by secretary Connie Chomicki and business was conducted by Bill Crawford. A motion was carried to have the reunion at the same place and time, the second Sunday in July at 1 p.m. Vera Gibbings thanked all for get well greetings. Officers for 1984 are: past president, Bill and Joan Crawford; presiden_ Charlie and Shirley Shob- brook; vice-president, Gor- don and Darlene Shobbrook; secretary -treasurer, Connie Chomicki; sports commit- tee, Doris and Janice An- drews; nominating, Cliff Saundercock. Sports were conducted by Verna and Bonnie Gibbings. Winners were: Jonathan Miller, Kelly Peck, Michael Gibbings, Melanie Knox, Greg Crawford, Theresa Knox, Jim Crawford, Susan Willet, Wayne Peck, Connie Chomicki, Cliff Saunder- cock, Angela Sipes, Janice Andrews. The oldest present was Laura Saundercock and the youngest was Lindsey An- drews. Coming from the far- thest distance were Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bell, Yorkshire, England. (Rod Hilts photo) Walton United Church honors Sunday Schoolers By Betty McCall The Sunday School Promotion was held during the Sunday morning Service at Duff's United Church, Walton with secretary Dianne McCallum giving out the awards. The Sunday School enrohnent in September was 51 children. There were 22 awards given out for perfect attendance or not less than five Sundays missed for this 82-83 year. Nursery teachers include: Cathy McGavin, Cheryl Fraser; Jeanne McDonald and Patricia Hackwell. Class children are Patricia Clark, Lisa Gingerich, Christopher Saur, Jeremy Scott, Colleen Collins, Chad McCallum, Amanda Workman, Lee Ann McDonald, Chris Davies, Colleen McCallum, Neil Saur, Allan Weisbrod, Valerie Collins, Shannon Davies.
