BRIEFS. —J, 0. Stonemaa was in
Toronto last week. While there he met
Messrs. Crossley & Minter, who are
carrying on revival meetings in that
city, and who, when they were in
Hensel' last fall conducting meetings,
boarded with Mr, Stoneman. The
Rev. gentlemen had many enquiries
to make of Rensall, their recent field
of labon—The members of the C. O. O.
F, of Ibis village, who recently accept-
ed an invitation to attend the Lucan
lodge and witness initiation there, are

the present.—Much sympathy- is felt
here for Dr. and Mrs. Ferguson
in the very critical illness of their
litele six-year-old girl who has been
suffering from an attack of measles
followed by a very serious attack of
pneumonia, so much so, indeed, that
on Sabbath last alt hopes for her re-
covery were lost. However, we are
very pleased to state that at the date
of writing while not altogether out of
danger, she is somewhat better and
hopes are entertained for her recovery.

G. Jewitt, of this village, exchanged

Gorby, who has been here for a couple

GENERAL NEWS.
The steamers Ulenda and Ionia ar-
rived at Halifax. on Monday. The

from Liverpool. Neither saw any-

A report from Cape Sable, near
Barrington, N. S., on Tuesday, stat-

boxes, one half full of fruit, were
washed ashore this morning:. As this

Rance Norton, who was sentenced
to a, six months' terin for ballot stuff-

will adjourn to it neighboring orchard,
where a practical demonstration will
be given in pruning, grafting, etc., as
well as a talk on orchard cultivation
and methods zenerally pertaining to
fruit growing.
It is expected that the members of
the Farmers' Institutes and Horticul-
tural Societies, as web as every farmer
interested in the production of fruit,
will be present and, receive instruction
and take part in the discussion,

crops to an average of sixty-five far-
mers in each county and district of
Ontario. Each person who wishes to
conduce an experiment and is willing
to use great care and accuracy in his
work and report the result of the beet
directly after harvest should select
the exact experiment desired and ap-
ply for the same as soon as possible.
The material will be forwarded as
to the order in which the applications
are received until the limited supply
is exhausted, Although material for
not more than one experiment will be
sent to each person it might be well
for each applicant to make a second
choice for fear the first could not be
granted,
