Dan LA.TE RICHARD D. Yoneta.-The
funeral ot the late Richard D. Young
took place on W ednesday last, and was
largely attended, evidencing the es-
teem in which the deceased was held
in the community. The remains were
interred in the Exeter cemetery. Mr.
Young WAS born in Somersetshire,
England, in the year 1822, He mar-
ried Mary Gould, in the year of 184.5,
after which they emigrated to Canada.
They settled on the 8th eon. of Mark-
ham townehip, some time afterwards
moving to Pickering, where they re-
sided lean 1807 when they moved to
the township of Stephen, where de-
ceised continued the avocation of
farming until 1870, when they retired
and came to Exeter to spend the resi-
due of their day. The news " of the
sudden death of Mr. Young was a
painfor surprise to this district; Al-
though past the Psalmist limit of life
he was Inman of rerxiarkable physical
vigor and energy, f COM WhOW death
seemed far away, A few year ago he
had a severe attack of la grippe, the
effects of Which has at times caused
slight illness, but the immediate cause
of hisileath was pronounced periotinit
coupled with the infirmities attending
one of his age -over 80 years. Deceas-
ed was a Meehodist, and in politics a
Conservative. Never aspiring to any
public office, Mr. Young always took a
deep interest in anything that promis-
ed to be beneficial to the districe, He
was e good neighbor and a true friend.

atter, honest in his dealings, hewas
universally esteemed, Besides his
aged widow, be leaves to moues an ir-
reparable loss, one son and two daugh-
ters, .John G. Young, hardware mer-
chant of Crediton; Mrs, Alfred Glan-
ville, Crediton; and Mrs. George Glan-
ville, of Sault Ste Marie, Ont. T.Eull
Tams joins their many friends in
genuine expressions of sympathy for
Mrs. Young and family in their sad.

arms broken last week. He was en-

Rich ,rd Handford, of Centralia, met
with a very peinful accident on Fri-
day lave which inner yet result in the
loss of one eye. It ,appears he wa,s
letting out the cows, when one of the
animals struck hini in the eye with its
horn. It is feared that the sight is
destroyed.

Mis*s Minnie Graham, who was visiting the Misses White the past week,
received word on Monday, of the seri-
ous illness of her brother. Oouncillor
R. S. Graham, of St. Marys, who is
suffering from appendicitis. She re-
turned home on Monday.
Word has been received. here of the
very serious illness of Mrs. Manning,
who left some weeks ago for the home
of her sister in Gpelph, a telegram
later announces that her condition is
very low indeed, and that the end
seems near.
