church last Sabbath evening to a well

placed in Mr. Robert McLeod's lot. He

derson, of Toronto, associate mission-

Tuesday evening in the interests of
the mission work. -Mr. Dorcey, bro-
ther of Mrs. Mike Carron who bas been
seriously ill with brain fever at Ride -
hart hospital, Ashlabd, Wis., is slowly
recovering. -A public meeting was
held in the Methodist church Tuesday
eve. by the Rey. Dr. Henderson on.
Missionary work. - The annual Ban-
quet of the 0. 0. F., of this place was
held on Thursdaynight of last week
and was a decided success in every res-
pecb.-Mr. Jas. Auderson is away at
Harrington attending the funeral of
his sister-in-law, who died Sunday

borhood, and her death will be learned

A meeting was held recently at
Mitchell by a large number or tbe
old members of Bissell Lodge of Odd -
fellows, when it was decided to resur-
rect the old inetitutiori and start the
lodge up again. Mr, W. G. Hinds is
taking an active interest in the move-

Alex. Macpherson, one of Stratford's
oldest and most respected residents,
died at his home, Milton street, Tues-
day. Deceased was 75 years a age,
and *was born in Scotland...epee, was
for many years a member of the firm
of Glasgow Macpherson, Fingal, and
Macdonald & Macpherson, manufac-
turers of threshing machines, Strat-
ford.

Mr. Ea. C. Attrill, of Goderich,
while at the hockey match on Monday

of which will compel him to remain in-

The many friends of Mrs. James
Grieve, sr., of Ilarpurbay, will regret

The death of Mrs. Wm. Clark, form-
erly of Enna endville, took place in
Maynard, Massachusetts, on Wednes-
day of last week. After a residence of
many years in Egmondville, and
Mrs. Clark moved to Massachusetts
last February. She was 76 years of
age and died of cancer of the liver.
The family of Mr. JohnBell, Seafortb,
had an unpleasant- experience one
eight recently, and one which uearly
mit them - their lives. During the
night gas escaped from a coal stove,
and in the morning members of the
family were unconscioue and the aid of
it doctor was necessary to bring then
around.
One of the old residents of Wing -
bane passed away on Wednesday,
Mrs, Mary Cassels, aged 68 years,
relict of the late Mark Cassels. The
deceased caenc from Clinton about 24
years ago and settled with ber hus-
band on the farm adjoining the town
in East Wa.wanosh, wh,ere she lived
until after his death in Dec. 1807. The
'cause et death was pneumonia. She
leaves to mourn her Ioss one daughter
and five sons,
Goderich has it very expensive coal
contract with Mr. E. B. Holmes. A
dispute arose at the deterioration of
some of the cceil delivered, end Mr.
Holmes held that it occurred through
insufficient shed fecili ties, and that the
town was at fault. He sued and got
$2010 of his disputed account in the
single eourt. The town appealed and
the Divisional Court reduced the
emount to $800, Holmes went to the
Court of Appeal, and had the original
gitent restored, and this morning
town deposited the amount neces-
