Mrs. John L Delray, one of our best
known old ladies, died on Thursday
last at the residence of her son-in-law,
John O'Connell, Dublin, after a pro-
longed. and painful illness. Her fun-
eral took place on Friday, and was
largely attended. Her sons and
daughters, eliminated by distance, had
the consolation of being with her hi
her last hour. To the sorrowing fam-
ily we offer our heartfelt sympathy.

At a sparrow hunt in Hibbert the
other day some 4000 dead birds were

Dr. Duncan McLeod, one of the best
known physicians of Detroit,4 died Sun-
day night. Dr. McLeod was born in
Cape Breton in 1848e In 1350 his par-
ents moved to Hamilton, Ont. In 1870
he entered Trinity University, Toron-
to, graduating with the degrees of B.
M. M. D. and C. M. In the spring of

since lived, He was a son-in.law of
Mrs. James White, of Hensall.
The very sodden death occurred re-
cently, when Mrs. Rice, of Staffa, was
called to her last eeward. Up to lest
week deceased was enjoying good
health, but on Friday she bad a par-
alytic stroke, from which she never
rallied.. Her remains were laid away
in the StAffa, .cemetery. She leaves a
husband, two sons and two daughters

on Christmes Day, when his youngest

McTavish, one of Turpberry's pros-
perous young farmers.

Tuckersmith, on Christmas Day,
when his daughter, Miss Annie, was
united in marriage to Mr. John E.
Pepper eldest son of Mr. Roger Pep-
per There were about 40 guests. The

showing the 'esteem in which the
young couple are held by their many
friends. Guests were present from
mitchell, Hensel]. and Clinton, all Join
in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Pepper a
pleasant journey through life.
Obristmas Day was celebrated at the
home a Mr. and Mrs!. Robt. Mehl ordre,
London road, Kippen, by a very inter-
esting and happy event, it being the
marriage of their youngest daughter,
Miss Maggie, to Geo. Thomson, of
Hulletts son of Mrs.Thomson, now of
Clinton. This eetimable family con-
sists of five sons and three daughters,
and this being the first marriage, was
considered more than a usual occur-
rence. Mr. and Mrs. Thonison drove
to their new home on the gravel road,
Hullett, where he has an excellent
farm. Mr. Thomson is a youngand
prosperous farmer, one who is well
liked in the community, while his life
partner isn popular and accomplished
younenlidY, who will be ociuch missed
in social affairs around Hensall.
At the residence of Mr. Jos. Harvey,
of Stanley, on Christmas Day at half
past two, R. J. Beatty, fourth son of
Mrs. Geo. Beatty, of Varna, was uni-
ted in the holy bonds of wedlobk to
Miss Jennie Harvey, youngest daug-
hter of Mrs. Jos Harvey. The bride
was made the recipient of many val-
uable presents. testifying ,to the high
esteem ha which she was held. The
groom's gift to the bride was a beauti-
ful gold -watch and chain. The groom
is one of our most popular young men,
having taught school in Stanley .for a
number of years and is well and favor-
ably known. The young people will
reside in Egrnmedville, in the house
recently purchased by the groom.
One of those events—a wedding—is
always looked forward to by friends
and particulerly more so when the
happy event will be marked. in after
years as occurring on Obristnies Day.
Wednesday, the 25th inst., was a wed-
ding day at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Alfred MeKown, when their second
daughter, Miss Lillian I., was joined in
band to Wm E. Doupe, of Woodham,
Ont. The ceremony was performed at
high noon by Rev. Mr. Greene, in the
presence of the relatives and a .few
friends. The house was beautifully
arranged for the event, the decora-
tions being in pink and white. The
bride attired in brown silk with white
satin and applique, looked beautiful,
and her sister, Miss Blanche, as brides-
maid, was equally pretty, costunaed in
blue silk ; her little niece, Miss Vera
Mennel, as maid of honor, looked
sweet in white. The groom was as-
sisted by his brother, 8, Y. Doupe,
also from Woodharo. The usual wed-
ding dinner was partaken of and after
congratulations the newly-wed were
driven to the depot, when they left on
a short trip to Detroit and a fevv other
points before returning.. Tbe groom
is a welt -to-do merchant in Woodham,
and the lady of his choice, who has of
late been taking charge of his millinery
depaftment. was very popular among
her tria,ny friends here, and with whom
we join in wishing them every joy and
