And with purpose full and clear I turn to meet another year. +++ Since Christmastime is symbolic of giving, it somehow seemed ap- propriate that the front page of the News -Record's second section last week was devoted to two of our citizens, Miss Catherine Plumtree and Mrs. Miloslawa Zablocki. Each lady, in her own way, has given - the one with precious memories, and the other with an expression of art. While speaking of Catherine Plumtree's book, entitled "From The West Window", we negledted to mention that it is now available at the following places in town: The Arbor, The Board and Batten, Clin- ton Commercial Printers, Galbraiths TV and Gifts, and here at the News -Record of- fice. +++ Boxing Day guests with Mr. and Mrs. Don Crich and Lloyd, Princess Street, were Mr. and Mrs. Doug Crich of Willowdale, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Docking and Roy and Sharon Docking of Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mac- Farlane arFarlane of St. Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pym and family of BRI, Cen- tralia. ++t There will be townspeople who still recall bre advance party of RAF personnel who came to the Clinton Air Base in the early 1940's to form the nucleus of what was to become North America's first Radar School. In May, 1978, Ernie Cooke, of. Olney -Buckinghamshire, England, one. of those first RAF instructors, revisited Clinton with his wife May, and in a short twenty-four hour period spent a nostalgic hour at the former base and renewed old acquaintances in Clinton. Each Christmas for the past four years the Cookes have remembered their visit by sending a beautiful colour calendar of the U.K. to the News - Record. +++ Like many of you in town, the News -Record staff travelled around to spend Christmas with family and friends. Mary' Ann and Bill Hollenbeck celebrated with the latter's parents in Goderich on Friday and hosted a Gliddon gathering at their own home on Sun- day. Heather Branderwas at the family home in Goderich while Jim and Lois Fit- zgerald spent Christmas Day with Lois' family in Listowel, Boxing Day in Ex- eter , and Sunday in Tavistock. Shelley and Gary started off their Christmas Day with the McPhees in Goderich and finished with the Haist family in Stoney Creek. The Gibbs stayed home to welcome the family. +++ The last column of the WISHES A HAPPY BIRTHDAY To Robyn Leigh Hicks Paul Caldwell Ronnie Cook Greg Mayhew Kimberley Hayward Lori Forbes - Clinton Clinton R.R.1 Clinton R.R. 3 Clinton Ralston, Alberta R.R. 2.Clinton On Dec. 30 Jon. 2 Jan. 2 Jon. 4 Jon. 5 Jan. 5 A PLACE FOR KIDS year cannot close without a word of appreciation to all who worked in essential ser- vices over the holiday season. (James Fit- zgerald photo) Wingham hospital project WINGHAM - the building and renovation project at the Wingham and District Hospital is on schedule and should be completed by April. The project already is about 80 per cent finished, and is on target both time - wise and dollar -wise. The new office space and laboratory are nearly ready, the rehabilitation unit is functioning in its new quarters and the Nursing Assistants Training School is now open. The building committee now plans to follow up and try to collect the grants pledged by local municipalities toward the cost of the $500,000 project. Guess An Adult's Age Many adults worry that they're getting too old and like to hide their age. Here are two mathemat- ical tricks which will astound some adults and let you know how old someone is. Try playing these tricks on your parents or grandparents; they will be very surprised to find their secret is out. Trick *1 Tell them to 1) multiply their age by 2 2) add 5 3) multiply by 50 4) add any number less than 100 5) subtract the number of days in a year - 365 6) add 115 The two left hand figures in the solution will tell you their age. The two right hand figures, will tell you what number they added in step #4. Trick #2 Tell them to 1) multiply their house number by 2 2) add 5 3) multiply by 50 4) add 365 5) add their age 6) subtract 615 The last two numbers in the answer will be their age, the others the house number.
