(Photo by Cath Wooden) Dinner with the poor It was one day before Christmas. The people next door to us were very poor and couldn't afford a Christmas dinner. The whole day I thought how bad it must be without having 'Christmas dinner. So I went downstairs and asked my mom if the people next door if they were going to any place for Christmas dinner. My mom said, I don't think so." So I asked her if we could have them over for Christmas dinner she said "Sure.," So I ran over to their house and: asked them if they wanted to come aver' for Chtiatmas dinner and the lady said, "Sure". Then'I went home to tell my mom that they were coming.,. .t , So that night we Went shopping to buy ;some`presents for them. Then ,MY mom said, it'sgetting late owe better get home so we, woe °be late for Santa Claus. So we went home. The next day I woke up and opened all my presents. Everybody was done opening their presents and everybody was happy. It was almost supper time. We had everything ready. All of a sudden, I heard the door bell ring. It was them. After they came in, we sat down and ate. In awhile, we took them over to the Christmas tree to give them their presents. They opened them. They were very surprised. When they were going home, they all said, "Thank -you and it was the greatest Christmas they ever had. So from every year on, we had them over for Christmas and Christmas dinner. The little girl and the tree One day when I was out buying our Christmas tree, I saw a little girl in shabby clothes looking, longingly up at a huge Christmas tree. I thought about taking that one but instead I walked over toa shorter more fuller one. I told the man that I would 'take that one. I told the man to deliver it to my house. As he was loading it into the truck, I walked over to the little girl. `Beautiful tree isn't it?" I said to her. She didn't answer me. "How much" I asked the man. "That one there is $10.00" he answered: "Give it to the little girl" I said. Sha looked -up at me with big hap- py eyes. "Where do you live I asked her. She finally spoke. '"I'm an orphan". "Why did you want the tree then" I. asked her.
