A Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year to all the
readers of the Auburn news.
It is a rewarding feeling to
hear from former Auburn
folk who . enjoy my weekly
news. My only wish is that
more people would call and
tell me when they have
relatives and friends visiting
them. Let's make 1982 a bet-
ter year.

The Anglican Church
Women of St. Mark's
Anglican Church, met for
their December meeting at
the home of Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt. Mrs. Haggitt open-
ed the meeting with the
hymn, "Dear Lord and
Father of Mankind". She
gave the Invocation from the
Living Message, followed by
the scripture lesson from
Isaiah 11th chapter, verses 1
to 9. The meditation followed
by all reading the parts,
followed by • prayer. A
reading, "Be Yourself", was
read by Miss Laura Phillips.
Mrs. John Daer gave a
reading.
The president, Mrs.
Donald Cartwright, presided
for the business. The finan-
cial statement was given by
the treasurer, Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt. Correspondence
was read and dealt with.
Shut-ins will be
remembered at Christmas.
The offering was received
and the travelling apron was
passed.
It was 'decided to keep the
same officers for 1982:

treasurer -Mrs: Thomas Hag -
RM.
The Reverend William
Craven closed the meeting
with prayer. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Haggitt
assisted by Mrs. Donald
Cartwright.
Children's Party
Auburn Community
Memorial Hall was filled to
capacity last Monday even-
ing when the Auburn and
District Lions Club enter-
tained the children of the
community at their annual
Christmas party.
The party began at 7 p.m.
with a singsong led by Mrs.
Donald Haines with Mrs.
Fred Lawrence at the piano.
Donald Haines showed two
films, '
Santa arrived and gave big
bags of candy to all the
children.

The Auburn and District
Lions Club held their
December 50-50 draw at the
Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce last Wednesday.
The draw was made by Mrs.
Gail Falconer of the bank
staff. The winners were
Alison and Ryan Chamney,
children of Mr. and Mrs.
Doug Chamney. The draw
was in the char¢P of Lion,
Eldon Chamney.
Winners at the weekly
euchre party held every
Tuesday evening in the
Auburn Community
Memorial Hall last week
were: novelty -Clarence
Allen, high lady -Jane
Glousher, low lady -Carol
Daer, high man -Mike Mason
Jr. and low man -Wally
Mason.
Mrs. Jim Schneider and
her new baby daughter ar-
rived home this week from
Wingham and District
Hospital. Congratulations.
The Knox Knox United Church
Women held their Christmas
meeting on Wednesday,
December 16 beginning with
a potluck dinner served to 60
members and friends.
Following the dinner, Mrs.
Peter Verbeek, president,
was in charge of the meeting
which began with carol sing-
ing
inging led by Mrs. Richard
Hawley, accompanied by
Mrs. Donald Haines on the
piano.
The devotional period had
the theme, "How Far to
Bethlehem?" This was given
by Mrs. Peter Verbeek and
Mrs. Jack Armstrong. A
duet was sung by Mr. and
Mrs. Rick Hawley, "In the
Bleak Midwinter", accom-
panied by Mrs. Donald
Haines. A medley of
Christmas songs was played
by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall:
A reading, "What is
Christmas?" was given by
Mrs. Dorothy Grange. A
solo, "I Wonder as I
Wander" was sung by Mr.
Richard Hawley, accom-
panied by his wife, Linda.
An exchange of Christmas
gifts was in the charge of
Mrs. Verbeek and Mrs. Jack
Armstrong.
Ernest Durnin played
three selections on his mouth
organ, accompanied by Mrs.
Kenneth McDougall.
Social News
A special Christmas Eve
service will be held at Knox
United Church at 8 p.m. and
Christmas communion ser-
vice will be held at 10,p.m. in
St. Mark's Anglican Church.
Everyone is welcome to at-
tend these services.
The Auburn and District
Lions Club started the open
skating rink last Saturday
and if weather is cold enough
next week, every child in the
community will be able to
skate on the Auburn athletic
field beside the hall.

Couples' Club
The Couples' Club of Knox
United Church met at the
church last Friday evening
and went carolling
throughout the village.
About 25 attended and the
children joined in the sing-
ing.
When the small children
got cold, Mrs. Marinus Bak-
ker and Mrs. Glen Webster
took them back to the church
and made gingerbread
houses. All children assisted.
When all returned to the
church, lunch was served by
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Worsell
and Mr. and Mrs. Marinus
Bakker.

The record Christmas pie
was made in 1770 for Sir
Henry Grey, of. London. It
measured three yards round,
and weighed 168 pounds.

Christmas music played
by Mrs. Emerson Rodger
greeted the members and
their pests last Tuesday
when they arrived for the
Christmas meeting on Tues-
day, December 15 in the
Auburn Community
Memorial Hall of the Auburn
Women's Institute.
President, Mrs. Kenneth
McDougall was in charge of
the meeting and Mrs. Emer-
son Rodger was at the piano.
A duet, "Star of the East",
was sung by Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Hawley. Mrs. Gor-
don Chamney gave a
reading, "Christmas
Again". Mr. Hawley sang a
solo.
The history of the
Christmas carols was
presented by Mrs. Eleanor
Bradnock. After the history
of each carol, a verse of each
was sung with everyone tak-
ing part. Mrs. Emerson
Rodger was the pianist.
Mrs. Thomas Haggitt in-
troduced the guest speaker
of the afternoon, the
Reverend William Craven of
Goderich, rector of St.
Mark's Anglican Church,
Auburn. In his Christmas
message, he told the origin
of the Christmas tree in
which it was pointed out that
it originated from Bible days
- the cedars of Lebanon.
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock
had on display the finger
puppets that have been
made to go to Sick Children's
Hospital, London. More knit-
ters are needed to help with
this project of cheering the
sick little ones in that
hospital.
