Cub pack hold registration

By Norman East
We have this year 15 boys
in the Vanastra cub pack.
Registration was held on
September 14th where only
four boys and parents show-
ed up, but at our first
meeting 14 boys showed up.
This . meeting consisted of
forming six's. Sixers and
seconds were picked, also at
this meeting, games were
played for the rest of the
Our September 28th
'meeting was a work night for
the boys, who armed with
garbage bags supplied by
the township, held a
scavenger hunt for garbage
around the church and
Recreation Centre. The
yellow six had the fullest bag
at the end of hunt. Well done
yellow six.
Our first craft night of the
year was held at the October
5th meeting, and since
Thanksgiving was only a
week away, it was decided to
have an Indian night theme.
With some ideas borrowed
from CJ 81, the boys were
shown by Bagheera how to
make loin clothes. Each cub
then painted his own design
onto the cloth: Tom-toms
were also made, and these
were constructed from 48 oz.
juice cans and old inner
tubes. To complete the
dress, Indian head dresses
were constructed from con-
struction paper and a card-
board feather. The adept
forger of Bagheera then
painted each boys face.
October 24th was Boy
Scout Apple Day, and a very
successfull one for us.
Thanks to the residents of
Vanastra and Seaforth for
their generous donations.
November 2nd was a
memorable night. for
residents near the Rec. Cen-
tre as leftover ghosts and
goblins and whatever were
the order of the night, when
we held our halloween party.
The boys who came in
costume were "judged with
the following results: most
original, Darryl Dixon as a
robot; scariest, Colin
Thomas as an executioner;
funniest, John McLachlin as
a clown. Thanks to Renee
Lehnen for judging the boys.
Wonder witch (Bagheera)
then made an. appearance
and cast some gruesome
diseases on each boy. The
boys were then told to
retrieve certain items in
order to be cured. I believe
that some parents and
residents had visits from the
diseased persons looking for
these items. Since I received
no calls from parents that
night, I presume that all the
diseases were cured.
Games, stories and loot bags
filled out the evening. The
leaders would like to thank
Linda Dixon for the
chocolate bars and the help..
I almost forgot that Farmer
Brown, alias Beaver Jeff
Ryan and Popeye, alias
Beaver Scotty Dixon joined

soon forget.
During • the month of
November, we worked on the
Tawny Star. The cubs were
shown the proper ways to
use simple tools such as a
hammer, a hand saw, jack-
knife and various
screwdrivers. On the second
week, each boy was to build
a working model of a paddle
boat. November 30th was in-
vestment night for three
boys -Mike Carrier of
Vanastra, Jonny Carvell of
Vanastra and Jeff Caron
R.R.4, Seaforth.
A visit to the Brucefield
Fire Department hall was a
feature of our first meeting
in December. This visit was
proved very informative and
enjoyed by all the boys.
Cookies and chocolate milk
were supplied for which we
say thank you. At the
December 14th meeting, a
Christmas Craft was done. If
the boy who left his craft at
the hall would like it for
home it may be picked up at
Akelas' house.
The next meeting will be
on January the 4th as the
school concert is on the next
meeting night and school
holidays start the next week.
Registration is open at any
time during the year if there
are any boys interested.
On behalf of the Cubs and
Leaders of the 1st Vanastra
cub pack, we would like to
wish everyone a very Merry
Christmas and a prosperous
and Happy New Year.
