Beta Si a Phi holds
holiday meeting
The ten members of Xi Ep-
silon Beta Chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi gathered around
the beautifully decorated
tree at the home of Mary
Marsh on December 17 for
their annual Christmas
meeting. Punch and ap-
petizers preceded the boun-
tiful pot -luck supper.
After dinner, the meeting
began with the roll call ques-
tion, "What woman in your
life has most influenced
you?" Most felt their
mothers followed by grand-
mothers, close friends and
employers were the greatest
influence.
This lead into the program
presented by Lois Fitzgerald
on the topic, "Women Who
Made A Difference". Lois
chose a well-known Cana-
dian, ballerina Karen Kain,
as an example of a person
who has made an impact.
Because of her popularity,
resulting from her talent and
attractiveness of personality
and . appearance, many peo-
ple have become interested
in ballet as entertainment.
Thousands of little girls
across the country practise
ballet with the aim of becom-
ing like Karen Kain. Lois
read material giving in-
sights into the personal life
of the dancer.
Following the program,
the business meeting was
conducted by President Vi-
vienne Roy, with committee
heads giving their reports. A
thank -you note from Vi-
vienne for the grandmother
charm she was presented
with was read. The members
agreed to buy a dozen yellow
silk roses to be used at
rituals. Lois Fitzgerald won
the twenty-five cent draw.
The next meeting will be
January 12 at Linda Meade's
home.
The social committee
presented a program of
music by some of the
members. Marj Dobson and
Audrey Kemp played a piano
duet, and Mary Marsh and
Vivienne Roy performed
together on the piano and
violin. The latter two then
led the other members in
singing some Beta Sigma
Phi songs and Christmas
carols. Linda Meade read a
Christmas poem and Mary
Marsh gave a rendition of
her own humerous version of
the Night Before Christmas.
Sleigh bells heralded the
arrival of jolly old St.
Nicholas. The white
Whiskered gentleman
distributed the secret sister
gifts before hurrying back to
the northland to finish his
last-minute preparations for
December 24.
Gideon Bibles presented to
Huronview residents
During. the Sunday morn-
ing service at Huronview,
Mr: Bob Stevenson
presented Gideon Bibles.
Betty Scratch gave en ap-
• propriate reply on behalf of
the residents. Mr. Peter
Vanloo sang two lovely solos.
Lovely violin music filled
the halls on Monday I after-
noon when Ray Cantelon,
Wilson McCartney, Warren
Whitmore, Stewart McCall,
Elgin Nott - and Stan Hillen
tuned up their violins and
joined Jim Rose at the piano.
Mrs. Rose was also
presented and joined her
husband to play the organ.
Brucefield school children
presented a ;musical pro-
gram on Tuesday afternoon.
The Anglicans invited all
other residents to join them
on Wednesday afternoon for
their special Christmas ser-
vice. Tea and cookies were
served to those who attend-
ed.
Christmas carols were
sung at Bible Study on
Thursday afternoon. Eunice
Lamb read the scripture
reading taken from Matthew
21-11. Mabel Jeffery read the
Ten Commandments for
Christmas. Milford Prouty
gave the object lesson entitl-
ed A Christmas Candle, and
then conducted a bible' quiz.
Mrs. Prouty's message was
from Matt 1:23. Elsie
Henderson played the organ.
Hullett Central School
visited Huronview on Friday
afternoon and the residents
enjoyed the music of the
Choir and Band.
. Readers are asked if they
would kindly save their
envelopes with used stamps
on them not only at this
Christmas season but all
through the year. Please
drop them into Huronview
and we will see that they get
into the proper hands. We
suggest that you open the
envelopes from the bottom
and no harm will come to the
stamps.
Sympathy is expressed to
the families of Frank
Howson, Arlette Fear, and
Joy Howse.
We would like to take this
opportunity to wish all our
readers a very Merry
Christmas and much health
and happiness in the New
Year.
