After a delay, the children were entertained with a puppet show put on by the girls of the United Church Sunday School Following the show the kids were treated with ice cream and cookies which led up to the much awaited visit from that famed man in red, Santa Claus. With their spirits still high, the party moved downstairs for an hour of free skating for the children donated by the Lioness. Even Santa found time to take advan- tage of the ice time as he bound on the old blades and skated with the kids. A special thanks to the Bayfield Lioness for putting on the party. Then he turned, picked up his bundle attached to a stick and mov- ed off towards his compa- nions, his final goodbye punctuated by a sob. His little furry figure reel- ed away, the bundle sobbing on his shoulder. Then he came level with his new friends. There was a whispered consultation for a few moments and then he turned and waved. The last I saw of them was the three small figures vanishing somewhat unsteadily into the shadows, their little squeaky voices echoing across the snow in the harmony of the in- ebriate: "What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
