November was a busy
month for the Grade 3 class.
We did a study of television.
We visited the Cable 12
station in Holmesville on
November 18 and on
November 27 we enjoyed a
tour of CIG&% in Wingham.
While we were discussing
television, we wrote,
directed, and produced a
television program using
ourselves as the stars. Mr.
Dave Bieman from the
Media Centre, came on
Wednesday to film "Grade 3
Presents". We discovered
that there is a lot of work in
making even a short
program. "Grade 3
Presents" will be available
for viewing at school at a
later date.
Thanks to all the parents
who helped on our trips and
to Mrs. Tyndall who helped
on filming day.
One other small note - our
Readalong 3 program has
just ended and everyone
graduated.
Mrs. Heslinga s Grade 2
class has just finished a unit
on space Decembers unit of
study is of course Christmas.
We have taken about types of
Christmas trees, decorations
and the angel that adorns the
tree. The customs around the
world and our favorite
character. Santa, will
highligtt our program.

Thank you.
As you are proabably
aware, we have had
problems with head lice this
school year. You are
probably wondering what
you can do to protect your
children - Here are two
suggestions:
1. Check your children
daily: Use a good light to
check for head lice and nits
strong ,natural light is the
best or a strong fluorescent
light. The eggs or nits are
whitish, oval shaped and are
usually located behind the
ears oracross the back of the
neck - nits stick,to,the.hair
strand. It cannot be flicked
off as can dandruff. If you
find nits or a live head louse -
MAT immediately.
TREATMENT: 1. Soak the
head in pure vinegar for ten
minutes. This is to soften the
shell of the nit. 2. Apply
Para -Lice or Kwellada
solutions which can ,be
bought at the drug store.
Follow directions on the
bottle very carefully. To
avoid possible reinfestation,
treatment has to be thorough
and repeated in 4 to 5 days.
Each nit mist be removed
from the hair by pulling the
egg down the entire length of
the hair shaft. All nits must
be removed otherwise self
reinfestationCall occur.
2. The Christmas holidays.
are not far off. The holidays
are a time of travel and
visiting. Be especially
vigilant at this time that
your children do notcontrac
head lice. In the New Year
we will be back to check all
schools. Be sure that your
chid returns to school in the
New Year clear of head lice
or nits. If you have any
further questions, feel free to
canted me at the following
number 4823416. Seasons
Greetings from Madeleine
Roske, Public Health Noise.
