The Vi .M.S. and Ladies Group enjoyed a
delicious pot luck meal on Monday on
Monday at the bonne of Mr. and Mrs. Al
Hoggarth. The rooms and tables were
decorated artistically for the oc stone

The president, Mrs. Robert Belt
presided for the meeting of the W.M.S. and
opened with a poem. Mrs. Al Hoggarth was
in charge of the worship and spoke on "The
Gifts of Chrishnas". Mrs. William Bell
read the scripture and Mrs. Hoggarth led
in Bible readings followed by members
taking verse parts. A meditation on
"Christmas Gifts" was given by Mrs.
Hoggarth. Mrs. Robert Taylor played "0
Star of the East" and "0 Holy Night" on
the organ.
Mrs. Bell presided for the business, and
the roll call was answered by naming your
favourite Christmas CaroL An invitation
was received from Queensway Nursing
Manor to "open house' December 9th and
from the Huron County Christmas Bureau
for toys, good used clothing or un -
perishable food. It may be left at the store
in Exeter.
The treasurer, Mrs. Bell gave a very
gratifying report, and the present ex-
pressed
apressed sincere thanks to Mrs. Hoggarth
for her hospitality. Mrs. Al Hoggarth
presided for the Ladies' meeting which
followed, and opened with a Christmas
poem and prayer. Mrs. Lloyd Mousseau
read the minutes and the treasurer, Mrs.
H. Hyde, gave an excellent report.
Following the business, plans were
reviewed for the 1982 programs. Mrs.
Marlene Bell reported for the cards and
treats; and gave a reading "The Sunday
School Teacher". Mrs. Moir reported for
the quilt committee, and boxes and cards
will be taken care of on Tuesday Dec. 15 at
1:30 p.m. at the church. Next meeting
January 4th in the church at 2 p.m. Mrs.
Jean Snell of Exeter won the lucky plate.
Canvass success
Eric Luther, chairman for the Canadian
National Institute for the Blind wishes to
advise that Hensel' had another successful
campaign again this year, with a total of
$1,405.60 realized, and wishes to thank
everyone who donated to this organization
to help make the1981 canvass a success.

Lodge, Women's Auxiliary, Carmel
Presbyterian Church Arn old Circle.
Senior's Enjoy Party
The "Three Links" Senlors of Hensall
met in the local hall on Tuesday evening
for their annual Christmas meeting, The
Hall was beautifully decorated for . the
occasion and the tables presented a
delightful appearance. Following a
sumptuous dinner, the president Mrs.
Eileen Rennie presided for the business
and the treasurer, Mts. Dorothy Brintnell
gave her report and the secretary Mrs.
Irene Davis read the correspondence and
called the roll. The meeting closed by
singing the "Queen" with Mrs. Alf Ross at
the piano.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex McBeath were in
charge of the program and spoke a few
words stating they had asked Eric Luther,
W help with the program. It so happened
that the Gosse sisters Sonya and Michele
from Newfoundland, who are studying
music at the University of Western Ontario
were visiting the block's and being
acquaintances of the Luthers, were
requested by Eric to sing for the seniors
which was so much appreciated by all. The
sisters and accompanist were thanked and
given a hearty applause. It was a real
pleasure to be entertained by these
talented students.
Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Knott of Seaforth
were on the program and Elgin played
several toe -tapping selections on the
violin, accompanied by- his wife at the
piano. Mrs. Hilda Payne gave an in-
teresting reading "A December Night,
Long, Long Ago", and Mrs. Laird Mickle
favoured with several piano selections
which were very much enjoyed by all Mrs.
Alex McBeath gave a humourous reading
entitled "An Ode To Christmas or Keeping
Your Cool" Alex made some humourous
remarks and Mr. Knott favoured with
several more selections on his violin. Alex
thanked all for taking part in the program
and making the evening so enjoyalaie.
Women's Institute
hear speaker
Mrs. Doris Batkin of Clinton, secretary -
treasurer of the Huron County Historical
Society was guest speaker at the
December meeting of the Hensall
Women's Institute in December, and she
told how the Historical Society came into
being in 1964 and about the beginning of the
County Museum at Goderich, now con-
sidered one of the best museums in
Canada.
Meetings of the Historical Society are
held all over the County and the articles
read at these meetings are published

collected by the Society and are now stored
to the vault in the new County Library at
Goderich.
History has been made since day one.
The pioneers kept note as they travelled
the Huron Tract and their buildings
resembled the architecture of the "Old
Country" In 1947, Lady Tweedsmuir
asked the Women's Institutes to record the
histories of their villages and most
branches now continue thea work in their
Tweedsmuir history books. The histories
are microfilmed and stored in local
libraries.
President, Mrs. Joyce Pepper, con-
ducted the meeting and opened with a
poem, "Help yourself to Happiness".
Thirteen members answered the roll call
by recalling a vanished landmark in the
area. After a discussion, it was decided to
hold the meetings upstairs, beginning
January 1982. This will be the public
relations meeting.
Mrs. Eileen Ronnie conducted the
program, opening with Carol singing. She
also read a paper written by Mrs. Grace
Peck on the early years of Hensall
Women's Institute. Hostesses Mrs. Gladys
_Coleman, and Mrs. Elizabeth Riley and
their committees served a dainty lunch.

speaks to U.C.W.
The Hensall United Church Women held
their Christmas General meeting, on
Monday, December 7, the speaker being
their minister Rev. Stanley McDonald,
who asked the question, "What Does
Christmas Mean To You?" and then
presented Christmas as a season .of Joy,
Light and Revelation. Rev. McDonald was
thanked by Mrs. Dianne Gertsenkorn and
presented with a gift of appreciation. He
was introduced by Mrs. Kay Elder.
The devotional was conducted by ladies'
from Unit four, Mrs. Nan Britton, Mrs.
Florence Slade and. Mrs. Vera Lemmon
who presented a candle -lighting ceremony
following this ceremony Mrs. Donna F.
John sang a beautiful Christmas carol,
with Mrs. Joyce Pepper accompanying at
the piano. Mrs. Dorothy Mickle assisted at
the piano for the hymns.
An address of appreciation for her
leadership for the past two years was read
by Mrs. Helyn Drysdale to the retiring
president, Mrs. Dianne Gerstenkorn and a
Life Membership Badge was pinned on her
by Mrs. Shirley McAllister. She was also
. presented with a gift of appreciation by
Mrs Drummond. Mrs. Gerstenkorn
thanked everyone for the gifts and for their

The annual meeting of the Hensall
United Church women was held on Sunday
morning following the service December
6. The slate of officers was presented by
Mrs. Grace Drummond on behalf of the

president, Mrs. Cecil Pepper; second vice-

The Huron -Perth Presbyterial annual
meeting will be held in Hensall on January
25 at 12:30 p.m. and special events day will
be in Mitchell in April; also U.C.W. Con-
ference in Ingersoll ApriL The 20th
anniversary of the UCW will be celebrated
in June 1982, and the Hensall United
Church annual Congregational meeting
will begin with a pot -luck supper on
Wednesday January 20 at 6:30 p.m. while

March 5th at Carmel Presbyterian
Church
Mrs. Gerstenkorn reported the drape
that was to be hung inside the front door
was ready and also carpeting for the back
staircase. Reports were given by all
committee conveners and were accepted
with the work of the nominating com-
mittee. The financial account for 1981 and
the budget for 1982 were presented and
accepted. It was decided to hang new
drapes in the Parlor and the Fellowship
Hall, as far ale the Budget would stretch
and to redecorate the Den at the Manse.

Holy Communion service
Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted service
in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday
December 13th, speaking on "Our Best
Christmas Gift" Miss Donna Taylor lit the
Third Candle of preparation. The choir,
was coder the direction of Mrs. Dorothy
Taylor. The sacrament of Holy Com-
munion was partaken at the service, and
neat Sunday, the Young People will be in
charge of the entire service.
