ER 16, 1981 Bayneld••tip ers honored on On Dee. 4, Barbara and Alvin Betties entertained their family at a dinner in Hayfield at the Captain's Cove in honour of their 40th wedding anniversary. Mr. K�e�nnettht d Cooke, Clinton, and Mrs. Cla ice ally dine, their attendants 40 years ago, were present. Mrs. Jayne Mary Taylor, their flowergirl, of Dawson Creek, British Columbia sent a telegram as she was unable to attend. Following the dinner and picture -taking, the bride and groom, along with their at- tendants, were .hurriedly ushered to the main en- trance and outside stood two prize winning Belgians at- tached ttached to theirbeautiful wagon: The driver was none other than Tom Penhale, After being drenched in con- fetti the group took off on a long ride around the back streets in Hayfield. Finally, the carriagedrew up to the Bayfield Community Centre and who should be there? All the guests at the dinner plus many friends of Barb and Ars. For once this couple were lost for words as family and friends had kept this wonderful' evelit a secret for at least two months. Beautiful posters express- ing good wishes decked the walls and ruby and white streamers and white bells around the ceiling. The celebrities' table was centered with a three -tiered wedding cake a perfect -replica of 'the wedding cake of 40 years previous. A delicious lunch was served byfriends. Bruce Bettles, assisted by Mr. Douglas Feagan were emcees and Mrs. Bea Cooke gave a very humorous reading. Telegrams from England and many pasta of. Canada were read by Barb and Al's three daughters, Peggy Ann MacLeod of Bracebridge, Marie Fitzsimons . of Bayfield and Mary JeanBet Gies. Ken Scott and his band provided the toetapping music which young and old enjoyed 'un etlsely. A beautiful. cerise cut velvet reclining chair was presented from neighbours and friends. Many other lonely gifts and greetings were received: Barbara and Alvin ez pressed their gratitude to their wonderful family and host of faithful friends. Seniors tour Simcoe Twelve Bayfield residents joined a trip sponsored by the MacKay Senior Citizen's Group to see the Christman lights at Simcoe on Monday, December7th. After brief stop for lunch, the party moved on to Tillsonburg to visit the in- door market Here the party enjoyed a conducted tour of the enormous warehouse which covers an area of some 6,000 ft. And what a storehouse of exotic world- wide produce crowded the shelves and storage bins! The smells of spices mingled Kith those of teas from India and China, coffees and preserved fruits and nuts. Following this a stroll around the market offered endless temptations to the visitors. Candy, jams, jellies, pickles as well as a unique collection of cake decorations and party trimmings were lavishly displayed A little further on the group visited the Wedge of Cheese and once again were offered cheeses of every variety, meats biscuits and savoury delicacie . Yet another temptation tb stock up for Christmas. From food to flowers, the party Moved on to the Fernlea nurseries with its wonderful display of appropriate and original Christmas plants and flowers, all at very reasonable prices. Rejoining the bus the party went on to their final destination - Simcoe. The fir -3t stop was at the Urdted Church Hall where a won- derful beef sheer awaited thein, tender meat, rich gravy and vegetables with a selection of desserts. This is a popular stopping place for bus tours, some 2,800 meals being served in the pre- Christrnas period.
