the funeral of the late Mrs.
Ethel Griffen at Toronto last
week. She was the former
Ethel Govier, daughter of
the late Richard Govier and
Margaret Sprung and lived
on the Maitland Block on the
Baseline several years ago.
Predeceased by her hus-
band, she is survived by a
son and daughter and a
sister, Miss Kate Govier of
Toronto.
Prize winners at the week-
ly progressive euchre party
last week were: novelty,
Clarence Allen; high lady,
Mrs. Bob Powell; low lady,
Mrs. Dave Scott; high man,
Ben Hamilton; low man,
John Hallam. There were
eight tables in play.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
McNall of Welland visited
last weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Johnston and Miss
Laura Phillips.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin
spent the weekend in
Waterloo with their
daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Ar-
mour and Julie and other
members of their family.

Wayne Powell, Gordon and
Jackie of Clinton and Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Powell and
family on the sudden death
of a father and son, Wayne
Powell.
Family Night
A pretty lighted decorated
Christmas tree put up by the
Auburn and District Lions
Club and decorated by Mrs.
Donald Haines and colourful
Christmas wreaths,
poinsettias and holly,
decorated by Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer and Mrs. Frank
Raithby, made the Auburn
Community Memorial Hall a
festive place last Friday
evening when the Auburn
Horticultural Society and the
Women's Institute held their
annual Family Night.
The president of the
Auburn Horticultural Socie-
ty, Mrs. Ross Robinson, was
in charge of the program.
She welcomed all and Mr.
Richard Hawley said the
Grace.
New families in the village
and community were invited
and those who attended were
introduced: Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Perry and family and
Mr. and Mrs. Rick Wood and
family.
Mrs. Greg Park led in a
lively sing -song. Tafline
Scott played two piano solos
and Kevin Webster sang two
solos accompanied by his
mother, Mrs. Allen Webster.
Misses Angela Schneider
and Sharon Glousher played
trumpet solos - Amazing
Grace and Puff The Magic
Dragon. Misses Lana and
Leslie and Master Martie
Lawrence sang a trio - Susie
Snowflake and Winter
Wonderland, accompanied

wright played a piano solo.
A pantomime, Jason Steb-
bins' Courting, was acted out
by Sharon Glousher, Lorie
Cartwright, Mrs. Donald
Cartwright and Mrs. Ross
Dobie. Mrs. Eleanor Brad -
nock was the reader.
A kitchen orchestra played
several numbers with Mrs.
Emerson Rodger as pianist.
Those taking part were Mrs.
Donald Haines, Mrs.
Dorothy Grange, Mrs. Rick
Hawley, Mrs. Dave Scott,
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock and
Mrs. Ross Robinson. All
were comically dressed and
mouth organ solos and duets
were played by Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Robinson. He was also
dressed as a woman.
Mrs. Kenneth McDougall,
president of the Women's In-
stitute, thanked the Hor-
ticultural Society for the pro-
gram and also thanked the
more than 100 people who at-
tended this annual event.
The evening's program was
closed by singing 0 Canada.
Couples' Club
Visiting and a short con-
test started it all! Being in-
volved in progressive euchre
was another highlight of the

Auburn Couples' Club at the
November meeting held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Cross last Saturday
evening.
After much struggling and
some euchre and a few lone
hands, prizes were
presented. The winners
were: high lady, Mrs. Rick
Hawley; low lady, Mrs.
Elliott Lapp; high man, Rick
Hawley and low man, Tom
Cunningham.
A delicious lunch was serv-
ed by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Gross and Mr. and Mrs.
Barry Millian.
With the Christmas season
in mind, carol singing has
been planned by the club for
Friday evening, December
11. Everyone is to meet at
Knox United Church at 8
p.m. The couples are asked
to bring a few cookies and in-
vite your families to join the
group for the evening.
Walkerburn Club
The Walkerburn Club held
its November meeting at the
home of Mrs. Leonard Ar-
chambault: Mrs. Ted Hunk-
ing presided for the meeting
and read the poems, To
Make the Home Complete
and The Changing Seasons.
0 Canada was sung followed
by prayer by Mrs. Jerry
Huizinga.
The minutes were ac-
cepted as read by the
secretary, Mrs. Marian
Hunking. The roll call was
answered by telling a
favorite winter sport and a
donation to the support of the
faster child. The draw prize,
donated by Mrs. Marian
Hunking, was won by Mrs.
Rick Archambault.
A card was sent to Mrs.
Larry Johnston and Mrs. Ar-
thur Wright.
Mrs. Hunking announced
that the Tupperware party to
help support the foster child
was a success. A letter was
read, regarding the increase
in the support of the foster
child from $19 to $23 and on
motion of Mrs. Stewart Ball,
seconded by Mrs. Roy Daer,
the members agreed to con-
tinue the support until Oc-
tober 1982.
It was announced to all to
save the Zehrs and I.G.A.
tapes to help get equipment
at Huronview. Mrs. Elliott

found the I.G.A.
Plans were made for the
January meeting which will
be held at the home of Mrs.
Ronald Gross. Lunch com-
naittee will be Mrs. Ted
flunking and Mrs. Keith
Lapp. Program is to be in the
charge of Mrs. Manfred
Losereit and Mrs. Tom Cun-
ningham.
It was announced that all
who could go, would go to
Huronview on December 2.
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock
spoke on making puppets for
Sick Children's Hospital,
. London and asked for help
with this project.
Mrs. Ted Honking thanked
all who had donated ap-
pliances and clothing to the
good -will truck.
Mrs. Leonard Archam-
bault introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Phyllis Mit-'
chell of Walton. She spoke on
making ribbon bows and
demonstrated on the bow -
maker how they are made.
Each member and guest
made bows.
Mrs. Huizinga thanked
Mrs. Mitchell for sharing her
talent and presented . her
with a gift. Lunch was serv-
ed by Mrs. Huizinga and
Mrs. Archambault.
